Not unless you are a paladin, those guys are just jerks.

I suppose they can be, can't they?

Good thing there isn't one in Tempest's RPG, they'd really not like Sahara being with the group

My backup character plan is actually a Leonin Paladin (well, lawyer-Paladin), so I guess that means it is in your best interests to keep Bernat alive.
Though to be fair, Bernat is Lawful Good, having been a former city guard and all that, but he is surprisingly tolerant of the more Chaotic elements that were present in the city. So long as Hoar keeps Sahara's "Evil" in check, and she doesn't start murdering helpless babies, he shouldn't mind her very much.

She isn't a baby murder evil, more a "bite my shiny scaly ass" kind of sarcastic jerk who cares not about people and will bash in skulls and throw mooks to their doom if it suits her needs.
Would that paladin go right after her if he used a Detect Evil and realized she is one of those?

Probably not.

My character is not a paladin, but he will be receiving some light penalties for traveling with an Evil character, I can already say that.
I'll later chime in with a longer explanation why I think Good and Evil alignments are fundamentally botched.
I think a paladin (or anyone with a "detect evil" spell) would be entirely justified in going after Sahara immediately. If only because it's not possible to discern between "kind of a douche" evil and "secretly eats babies" evil, and it's imperative that the paladin protect the innocent from a harm that might come to them.

Even though the rest of the party would attest that she has behaved and healed them and has only ate 2 babies (and they were just peasant slave children )?

Depends on the Paladin.
As a Lawyer, a Leonin Paladin may be willing to wait and be careful, follow precedent, and be ready to prevent any "secretly eats babies" behaviour while also gathering evidence to determine what extent that "evil" is present.

Being that she is part of his dungeon party of players probably would help stay his hand at least a little.
I admit that it could be interesting if the jaded and resentful lizard lady were befriended and made less and less evil and angry with the world, which is part of the reason she has the evil rating and harsh backstory (Potential character development and justification for being a scaly bitch all in one package).

It would add some level of complexity to the alignment.
