So. A little while ago Tiberia sent me this:
What I didn't know was that Puddles there also did ABBA... In the middle of a cafe:

He's pretty good.
I wonder if he has opera training?

He does sound a bit like he does, yes.

His clown design is very reminiscent of Pagilacci, so of course I thought he was going to do opera before he even started singing.
But his voice has certain unmistakable opera tinges to it, not to mention his theatrical awareness.
That guy he's dancing with in the second vid is a real good sport.

Here's a really sexy sounding instrument.
The cigar box guitar is a southern instrument very similar to the Appalachian dulcimer but somewhat cruder. They can have anywhere from one to four strings, but three is the most common. They started to appear shortly after the Civil War, typically among the black segment of the population. The blues and rock and roll are deeply rooted in this instrument (called the diddly-bo in Georgia, sound familiar?) as a proper six string guitar was often out of reach for a poor southerner.
I think I might make one of these, it seems like a fun project.

That's pretty cool, I'd make one if I could play guitar.

That's pretty cool, I'd make one if I could play guitar. That's the thing. Aside from a kazoo, rattle, or a triangle, a three string guitar is one of the easiest musical instruments to learn. Even a one string guitar requires more skill. In the classic "open G" tuning it's pretty much impossible to hit a sour note on a three string. You can put your fingers anywhere and it sounds good. Most people can start making simple melodies in a few minutes. I was pretty sure I had a cigar box around the house somewhere. After looking around I happened to find it. A nice, wooden, Don Tomas box. Should be perfect. I also found a Christmas cookie tin that might make a nice banjo style body for a second project. I checked my scrap pile for something for a neck, but only came up with pine. That's no good. I was hoping I could do this with the only expense being the strings. Maybe if I can find an oak pallet I can reclaim some of that, but most likely I'll have to buy a 1x2 at the hardware store. Red oak isn't terribly expensive anyway. I figure I'll start with an acoustic and if I get bold later I might make an electric.

Maybe I'll have a go at making one for shits and giggles, once I get some of my other projects around here sorted. I still need to build a second work bench to set up my reloading press.

I've seriously spent my way into trouble with all my projects lately (mostly the guns). I figure I need something cheap to keep me busy. For less than 20 bucks I can keep myself occupied with this for a few days.

I picked up some string and used machine heads from a music shop for less than 8 bucks. Got a 6 foot piece of oak (enough for two necks) for 7. Got a neck fitted to the cigar box, now I just got to work on the head. I'm gonna use a scope rail for a bridge (the one that didn't work out on the Mosin).

If you have enough for two necks, then naturally you should make a guitar with two necks.

I was trying not to get too excessive with my first build. I can always go crazy later on. Plus the neck is pretty much where all the work is. It would be double the effort.
I did happen on a site that had a picture of one with three necks. It had a four string neck, a three string neck, and a one string neck. Really neat.
I found there's a really cheap way to turn an acoustic into an electric. You can pick up a contact mic on eBay for 2-3 bucks and stick it to the inside of the body. Instant electric guitar. Don't have to bother with expensive pickups. Prolly won't sound as good, but for 3 bucks who gives a shit?

Exactly, even if you don't like how it sounds you won't be out much.

Ah... alleged news of Trump's suffering in his position has got me on a musical spree. let me see...
Here is one about getting comeuppance. For some reason I actually love the religious overtones in this one and it coming up in a wonderful scene in Babylon 5 only makes it better.
Of course, there is this classic:
We already know about "When the Man Comes Around".
