I'd probably go with the Uzi then; you can't swing a cat without hitting an AR, and if the quality of the ones they have is dodgy then they're probably not worth it.

Went back and looked at the ARs with my cousin since he was interested too. They were a brand that I wasn't I wasn't familiar with (which I can't remember off the top of my head). They were also missing some components that you typically expect in an AR. There was no forward assist or ejection port cover. Strictly speaking you don't need either one of those, but it feels off to not have them. What really spooked me was how light they were. Typically when you go to super light materials you expect the cost to go up since the quality has to be better to maintain strength. Since I tend to use and abuse my guns a lot I wasn't really keen on worrying about an aluminum grenade going off right in front of my face.
My cousin seemed interested in one of the rifles but he's a lot less savvy than I am so I steered him away from them. What I did tell him was "I really don't think we should leave here without the UZI".
So he bought it.
If he hadn't I woulda. So he saved my ass on that.

I've seen people argue that it's better to not have a forward assist, for some reason. I really don't understand why.

I think the reason they say that is if you need the forward assist there's probably something wrong with the shell you're trying to feed. The brass is bent or bulged or something and it might end up not extracting anyway. On the other side the forward assist does give you the ability to let the carrier down gently instead of allowing it to slam shut. If for whatever reason you're trying to be quiet and don't want to make a lot of noise loading.
It's not unusual for the super lightweight setups to not have it as a way to shed some weight, but I kinda like having it.

That's only one of many reasons why a bolt might not fully into battery though, it just seems kind of odd to me. I just think it's a good thing to have, I've handled rifles where occasionally I had to give the bolt handle a little tap on the first round, but without a forward assist you can't do that on an AR at all.

you can't swing a cat.... Who the hell is swinging cats around? As an evil genius zombie variety of cat I demand to know who is doing such a heinous act? I also found another I before E rule exception.

My ancient neighbor weighs eight feisty beige deities using weird science heists, all while feigning to forfeit his foreign reign, to freight them to either society in the height of their sovereign seizures.

I nearly bought one of those on the side of the road a couple of years ago, and I really wish I had. The guy didn't know what it was worth.

I would have, as antique swords can be worth quite a lot if they are genuine.
