The people I know personally who thought that was a good idea are the types who think cops are concentrated evil because they give them tickets for doing twice the posted limit in their unregistered cars while high as fuck.

Do you associate with those people by choice?

Not usually, the ones I know are a bunch of white trash idiots, I'd just as soon beat them with a pipe as talk to them.

I have family who dislike cops in general, mostly as a leftover of the good old days when the civil rights thing and struggles for Justice of various types were in full swing and often violent.
Also, shit like this:

Where can I get pepper spray in a fire extinguisher canister? No wonder they're liberal with it, they got a ton of it.
That's kind of the double edged sword with nonlethals. You're more likely to use it inappropriately if the consequences for it are less dire.

Yup. We've seen that with tasers too...

Maybe add sulphur mustard to the mix to discourage unnecessary use?

I think it would be a war crime at that point.

It is only illegal if you get caught.

Looking around at the gun shops I happened across a somewhat unusual find. A Walther Model 4. A WWI era .32 acp that was the precursor to the PPK. The gun was in fine shape for it's age but was priced at 500 bucks. I was interested in it, but my gut feeling was that the price was high. After a little looking around online it seems the guns value is more in the 3 to 400 range given its condition. Prolly won't get it. Though another shop has a Ruger SP101 in Wiley Clap version. This style has the Novak sights on it. They have the benefit of being adjustable without being prone to snagging like standard adjustable sights. It's 650 bucks. I hate spending over 500 for anything cuz I'm a cheapskate, but the 101 is the best looking and feeling snub on the market and I doubt I'll hate myself for buying it.

I'd go for it then.
Also, I think that Walther looks like an old toy gun.

The Walther M 4 does have some bizarre design choices that had me giggling a few times while I was handling it. The ejection port is on the left side of the gun. The safety is an odd lever that you turn 180 degrees to engage. There's a round shroud over the front of the barrel that is actually part of the slide. It looks so out of place that it seems like an afterthought or an attempt to redress an issue. Like maybe the factory manufacturing the barrels got incorrect specs and made them an inch too long. It was a military pistol so maybe it started out with a shorter barrel but they had to lengthen it to get the performance they needed. It's just very funky looking which was what attracted me to it in the first place. At 300 bucks I woulda bought it without a second thought, but at 500 I'm not interested.
The SP101 is one of those guns I know I'll buy eventually. The problem is that it's getting to the end of the month and rent and bills are coming up.
Though it is a leap year...

That kind of safety is actually fairly common on early automatic pistols, although I don't think most of them had quite that much travel. The recoil spring goes around the barrel, and that sleeve is what holds it in (from the photos I've seen it looks like it's held in place sort of like the barrel bushing on a 1911) That's the problem I have, bills and taxes get in the way of buying more stuff.
