Eclipse Phase
The Transhumanist RPG
My favorite RPG setting of all time. Made by many of the same writers and designers behind shadowrun 4th edition. This shows in the system and rules
Take 4th ed and replace hits on d6's with a d% based system and you have the rules for eclipse phase for the most part.
If Shadowrun loves magic, tradition, and the sanctity of the human form, then Eclipse phase is the rebellious child who hates their parent on principal.
Magic? There is no magic. With only a couple exceptions this is hard Sci-fi
Tradition? Fuck you. Anarchism is alive and well and working. Scum swarms are burning man in space. the only traditionalists are space nazis, hypercorporations, or racist moon people.
Sanctity of the human form? *Just starts laughing hysterically*
alright enough dancing around. The setting
So the Singularity happened.
Now only 5% of the human race is left alive.
And they live in space
long story short, the nations of the earth were going to war, and these Military AI's called Titans had a hard take off sinmgularity. this was actually fine up to the point they got an alien virus, and went insane. Killbots, anoswarms, and things that rip your head off for forced uploading then swarmed about killing everyone. Now the earth is a hellscape plagued by these machines, radioactive wastelands, and who knows what else.
Oh and the Titans dissapeared to parts unknown. The only thing people know for sure is that they left the solar system, and went elsewhere.
So the remaining 5% of humanity lives in space, and transhumanist technology has spread like wildfire. on earth economic divides, and the elites liking the status quo prevented these technologies from spreading too much. The Status quo is gone forever. So now almost everyone is clinically immortal.
What does that mean?
If you are killed, they can reinstate you from a backup, or from the cortical stack in your head that keeps a real time back up.
People don't die when they are killed.
There are various factions defined largely by their ideaologies, rather then their nationalities... like Alpha Centauri, my favorite video game of all time.
From closest to the sun outward
the Morningstar alliance- Live on Venus in floating sky cities. don't know much about them, but I know they love fashion.
Lunar Lagrange Alliance- Live on the moon, and cover most of the area around earth. one of the few places where people might still identify by nationality.
Planetary consortium- Control most of the inner system. Really is just a puppet of the hypercorps
Jovian Republic/Junta- Best Korea in space. as written. The only Bioconservative faction, and they are not reated well. they are treated as North Korean Nazi Republicans. Most people hate this carricaturization of bioconservatives. I have a soft spot in my heart for them, and rather play them as the people who are very very leary of technology ever since it killed 19 out of every 20 people. yeah. That statistic makes them sound pretty reasonable don't it?
Autonomist Alliance- covers these three groups
The only weakness the setting has is that it shows too much love to the anarchists and Titanians, and makes everyone else look bad. The Jovians get it the worst, but everyone gets it some.
Running a game now. one of my players does write ups of the games. Pebble in the sky Campaign

Autonomist Alliance- covers these three groups
- Anarchists- Live in communes and use a purely rep based economy. no laws. Of course if you abuse this, you may find yourself shunned, or exiled, or worse as there are no laws protecting you either.
- Extropians- Anarcho-Capitalists. Love capitalism, hate laws.
- Titanian Commonwealth- Live on Saturn's moon, Titan. Based on Nordic Countries. don't understand them much.
and groups that are not quite their own independent factions
Argonauts- Scientists without borsers
Ultimates- Space Nazis. Not really, but close. Social Darwinists, believe might makes right, and meritocracy. Have a disdain for the weak
Exhumans- Forego the concept of being human wishing to improve themselves beyond human, or transhuman limits.
Scum Swarms- Burning man in space! Burning man in Space! so much fun
Reclaimers- wish to take back earth
Criminals- Do Crime. or where there is no law, they do things that are socially unacceptable.
The only weakness the setting has is that it shows too much love to the anarchists and Titanians, and makes everyone else look bad. The Jovians get it the worst, but everyone gets it some.
