Clash of Nations comes in several sets, so you might be wondering which ones to buy.
Let me break it all down for you.
Firstly, if you want to by the game as a wayu to donate to the comic it's actually a very inefficient way to do so. We only make a few quid on the game, as most of the money goes to the company that makes it to pay for components.
This is not a big money making scheme on my part.
It's that we made a game, we are proud of it and we think you will enjoy it.
having said that, I do want as many people as possible to buy it.
For your money you get a really fun, tense game and lots of nice Harkovast art. A lot is taken from the comic (in many cases being reedited for the cards) as well as a lot of entirely new art that is only for the card game.
It features some characters from the RPG, as well as characters that have yet to appear in the comic, so for a harko fan its probably going to be a lot of fun to look through.
I want people to buy it because I'm really proud of what we've made and I want you to give it a try.
But which sets to buy?
The sets are FIXED not random. Each one you buy contains fixed cards. There are no random boosters like Magic the gathering.
You dont need more than one copy of anything, and if you buy all the sets you will own every card in the game. Every card is unique (when there is more than one copy o the card with the smae name, they have different art so you aren't buying duplicates.)
each player doesnt need their own copy to play either. One copy is enough for 2 to 4 players.
So if you wnat to chip in with friends you can buy a single set for you all to play.
Me and Red Ned, for example, have one copy at his house we've been playing (though we intend to get a new one for the latest, most up to date final version.)
The obvious first thing you need is the base game. This gives you everything you need to play with 4 races (darsai, nymuis, eslum and ano-chee). If you just want to try the game out or dont have too much cash to spare, you can just get this set and still have a fun time. (Cost $24.99 US dollars)
Contents-
4x25 nation decks
70 card event deck
48 card challenge deck
If you want to go beyond this, the next thing I would recommend is the expansion "Powers Unleashed" which adds The West, The Wizards of Eldex and their allies and experiences that let characters upgrade during the game to become even more powerful.
These new decks add a lot to the game and with them and the base game you are playing what I would consider the full game.
This set also adds some fun extra cards for multiplayer, to make three or more players even more crazy.
($12.99)
2x 25 card patron decks
1x21 card experience deck
12 addditional challenges
4 additional events
People who play the game often seem to ask for more races to give them more magical element combinations to base their tactics around. Readers of the comic and RPG will probably also want to get to play their favourite factions.
Any of the race decks are fine, you don't need to get these sets in a particular order. they will each add two additional factions.
If you get them all you will have 10 factions, which gives the game huge replayability with all the different combinations and starting characters.
($6.99 for two decks)
2X25 cards nation decks.
We also plan to do special counters that look like Eslum Sovereigns and a physical copy of the rule book.
We got the counters to play with and they are great, but you could use pennys or tiddlywinks or anything else as components. If you have access to a phone there will be a pdf of the rule book online you can use.
So these things aren't essential, but we are giving people the option. We are selling these bits at cost, so only get them if they sound cool to you.
(coin set $11.99
Nice box to keep it all in $6.99
Rulebook cost to be ascertained.
These things are expensive for what you get, but the option is there if you want them...the counters are really cool.)
The only other things I would reccommend to help with the game are-
D6 dice to denote damage on characters.
D12s to keep track of your power score
D20s to keep tack of who is winning and losing each challenge.
Glass beads or some other counters to keep track of reinforcement.
That's how we kept track of things, but you might find your own methods that work better.
Lastly I would strongly advise getting some cheap plastic card sleeves to protect your collection. If you play the gmae as much as we have the cards will take some wear and tear if you don't protect them, and clear card sleeves cost fuck all. Much cheaper than a new copy of the game!
Hope that helps clarify everything. I want to be as transparent about what you are getting as possible.
if you have any questions, ask away.
