Sounds about right for a Baptist pastor.
I went to a funeral last year for a friend who's son committed suicide. They were Baptist and the pastor there used the entire event as a recruiting tool.
And I'm like: "Are you kidding me? Can't you just set that aside for one day and let us grieve?"

Jesus... you know, I don't think getting punched in the chest by a lunatic is going to convince the kid to "take God seriously".

Regarding the "not taking the lord serious" comment, I can see why the boy wouldn't care about what this idiot says, especially since he didn't actually go into detail about what the "smart alek" was actually saying, which implies the priest just annoyed that he wasn't just accepting whatever he was saying without question. I think www.scarfolk.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/pious-peril-public-information-1972.html is relevant here.

The problem with appealing to God for what to do is that no one seems to have a reliable methods for telling Gods ideas from their own. So people end up having all kind of really stupid ideas and then convincing themselves God came up with it.

Wow, I can't actually believe this guy is admitting this crap in front of everyone. He is admitting... to punching a kid in the chest! If someone did that to my kid, and I found out about it, I'd have that one in such shit... so much shit... I'd... argh!
