...There is a stereotype of Americans as optimistic and cheerful? It's usually combined with blonde hair, blue eyes and (if female) big boobs. Anime at it's finest.

Anime gives that? Strange.

Really?
Well... alright then. I guess it gets mixed up with the regrettable "dumb blonde" stereotype.

Yeah Americans are generally assumed to be overly optimistic, thinking America is fantastic and success is inevitableas long as you work hard etc. It's often also portrayed as them being dumb or naive about the world. For example, Americans saying "That's like totally awesome! oh my God!" When British people would say it was "quite good" Not that all Americans are like that, but that's the streotype. So its sort of interesting that the Golta worked out the opposite in that regard. They talk like everything is shit.

Well, American exceptionalism never really struck me as optimistic so much as just nationalistic. But then again, I've never traveled outside Canada, and outside Province only once, so I have no idea.

Canuovea due to your limited understanding of accents you probably thought all the Americans you met were some weird combination of Germans and South Africans.

See, that is funny, because I'm the one who does accent impressions in my general circle of friends. They're usually bad... but in a good way.
Then again, I've been also told my accent fluctuates naturally, generally towards some kind of "British", and I totally don't notice. And this one time I started speaking French with an Italian accent... and that one other time I accidentally did French with a harsh Scottish accent. It just happens.

I can't stop sounding like a Brit! Make it stop!
Except to me I don't sound like a Brit. So maybe that is the problem? I'm used to British-lite but not actual British accent? I don't know.

Personally I find it weird that the American stereotype is so fucking arian. I mean it's either that, or fat idiotic/corrupted slob. Honestly I get that people like to joke with other countries. And I can take a laugh a few times. Though sometimes the whole country stereotypes is fucking douchy. Reminds me of the time I was in Italy with my family, some guy just walks up to us to offer a tour or something, we walk off then he shouts out "We all know you're Americans!". My dad turns around and says "What?" and the guy books it. You wanna joke about a country? Go for it. Mock it maliciously, you are a douchebag.

Considering that I've been asked some pretty outlandish/insulting things about my country when I've been in the US...

I live in Igloos and am a socialist! SOCIALISM! IN IGLOOS! Actually, I think that if you are from a "Western" country that isn't the US, you're apparently a socialist. Edit: Also, America is awesome. i.imgur.com/1DbpRVE.gif
