The ferret has a muzzle around it's head so it can't eat the rat, of course the rat doesn't know that.

Yeah, to the rat it is shear heart pounding terror... And then it escapes! But no, for it falls into a cage! And a moment later, the ferret follows. Locked in the cage, terrifyingly unalone.

I think they still use rats sans the ferret. Rats are clever and can be trained to run through walls and other tight places in order to receive a treat. There's no need to motivate them with a ferret.
I think I saw that on an episode of Ripley's Believe it or Not years ago.
Though they probably use snake cameras more nowadays.
