Night Lords, unusually for the forces of chaos, are sceptics and atheists. They don't worship any of the Dark Gods of Chaos, seeing the powers of chaos as just a tool to use for their own benefit. Their only motivations are to gain power and wealth and to inflict suffering for their own entertainment. They are a smaller fleet, which seems to fit as I imagine them mainly raiding and plundering. The Night Lords prefer to use psychological warfare on their opponents, most commonly terror and horror. Their methods are so horrific that enemies are afraid to stand up to them. They can also employ other methods though, if depending on their enemy. Understand their enemies thinking, the Night Lords can use is against them. The Night Lord escorts, prowling for vulnerable targets to plunder. The red on the front makes them look like angry mouths, which I really like. The fleet includes of a lot of the old Space Fleet range models, as light cruisers. I appreciate the classics. The Space Fleet vessels have a large, flat area on the front which lets me decorate them with water slide transfers to add some cool icons. Bat wings features a lot in Night Lord Iconography. I haven't give the ships names yet, I was thinking of naming them after Batman villains.

Obviously. You gotta go with the classics. Killermoth and Doctor Double X will probably also gets a look in. And yes, I am really going to name that after those villains off the back of this conversation.

The nightmare is about to get worse for the Imperials. The Nightlords are back in force! I did as promised, all the ships are named after really crappy Batman villians! (The Escorts are called "mooks"). I really like that the red pops from the dark blue. I like the idea of just the red being visible in the darkness, like jaws coming out of the void. The Batwings are from 40K nightlord marine helmets. The Dragon style cannons on the side are made on a 3D printing site called Shapeways by a very talented guy called Armand. They are VERY expensive! I spend a bit over £16 on 12 of them. But they are so perfect for these ships that it was deffinitely worth it to me! These old Space fleet models serve as light cruisers and give me a chance to use some cool transfers to add symbols. The Escort prows work great with the red (I think!) They look like vicious jaws! Look up to the stars with fear, for we have come for you! AVE DOMINUS NOX!

A subtle improvement, since the last time I showed them the models have been varnished, so they look more shiny and less matt. To me it looks a lot better.

Hmm. I might have to get my hands on some varnish...
I suppose I'll have to show the crap I've painted at some point, but they aren't space ships.
Also, Night Lords are stupid. "Oh yes, we must do this, and that, and so forth just to be mean to people."

WHA WHA WHAAAAA?
Nightlords are masters of terror and psychological warfare. They beat their enemies emotionally and mentally before they crush them physically. While spreading terror is hillarious and fun, this isn't some amatuer spook show! The Nightlords learn how their enemies think and use it against them.
For example...in one engagement against a powerful Ork Space Hulk, the NightLords realised Orks could not be intimidated or frightened, so they switched to hit and run strikes over several days. This frustrated the orks as they couldn't engage in a proper fight and eventually caused discipline to collapse and the orks to turn on each other, destroying the Hulk due to their own in fighting.
The Nightlords know their enemies better than they know themselves. Fear is their main and most obvious weapon, but its psychology in general. Their Primarch is basically Batman!
And also they will skin you and wear your insides as a hat.

Top tip...don't buy paint from games workshop. They charge a FORTUNE for tiny pots and its the exact same paint you can get anywhere else. You can get spray varnish from art shops for not that much.
I've been using spray paint intended for cars to undercoat models. Newsflash...Its the exact same paint! Don't pay for labels!

If their primary motivation is "We likes hurtn people!" They're stupid.
Even the Dark Eldar have the excuse "We likes hurtn people because it keeps Slaanesh from eating our souls!"

Night Lords scorn religion and value material wealth and power. Fear and suffering is fun but is mainly the most effective way to get material wealth and power. Scaring people and breaking them mentally means you don't have to kill them/killing them is easier/you cna do something horrible to them later. I am not disputing the nightlords are sadistic, murerous mother fuckers, but you are making sound like out of control rabid dogs, which is mroe like the World Eaters. They are clever, sneaky and get under their enemies skin (and not just by wearing it!). They also have motivation beyond carnage for its own sake. Again, not saying they dont like carnage, fear and suffering, but they have actul material goals (stealing loads of awesome shit because they can, for example!) Night Lords are cynics who don't worhsip the chaos gods and view religion and spirituality as a waste of time. They care about gaining things in the here and now! Conquest, wealth and power are important goals...and it just so happens that the best ways to get those things involve being totally evil and thus are great fun!

So, they're an atheist stereotype (and really dumb ones too, because, the "Gods" are legitimately, provably, real... you don't have to worship them if you don't want of course).
I mean, they're clearly clever, but so are the Dark Eldar.
And what do you mean? They're Space Marines! The easiest way for them to get most things is to walk in with their powered armour and beat the bartender to death and take their shit. These guys would, for kicks, terrorize the bartender to death over a long period of time just for kicks when they could have just blammed the guy with their rocket missile guns and THEN take their shit.
Sure, psychological horror is useful for some things, but you can't pretend that it is the most efficient thing most of the time.

Yeah but they would do stuff that was so horrible to the bartender that every other bartender would just immediately give them eveyrthing when he saw them coming without them needing to fire a shot. These guys are the masters of the work life balance. They make less work for themselves and have more fun. Enjoy your job, you don't work a day in your life!
Its not like they cant just destroy their enemies by conventional means, they just have psychology and fear as their ace in the hole to tip the balance. In the same way Batma can just punch you in the face, but if things look rough he has psychology as his secret weapon.
Honestly I used to not be that big of a nightlords fan, but looking itno them more as I worked on this fleet they have grown on me a lot. I like all the chaos chapters, they work really well for theming fleets and having distinct styles.
Canuovea, which chaos legion do you like best? I will show you my models for the one you name next (yes, I have a fleet for all of them.)

Alpha Legion. They're similarly "atheist", covert, and sneaky. But there is a bit more to them.

My Alpha Legion fleet is a bit smaller, but I think you will find it interesting. It's honestly very different in style to the Nightlords one, as we shall see.

Awesome. You may have shown it off before, actually.
And I do like their paint scheme here, it really stands out.
