so last year late August I went to the biggest Anime convention in Quebec known as Otakuthon. other then a few enjoyable panels I didn't have a lot to do while there due to my limited comfort zone and shyness to meeting new people but I was able to find a bit a fun in the smallest of ways
so while I was in the shopping area (where I spent most of my time) I was getting little bits of enjoyment out of a simple action, calling the comics there comics, and the cartoons well cartoons. now I do know that they are called manga and anime but honestly I don't see the big deal in just using the english words to refer to them with, funny thing though because apparently I'm the only one to think so because while going through the large comic section I asked stand owner while near people "do you have the comic Spice & Wolf?" and if looks could kill I would of died because seemingly everyone around me started giving me the worst looks, and they weren't hidding it.
surprised by that reaction for sure but didn't pay it much mind, later finding myself in the DVD area yet again I'm looking for something and ask "um do you guys have the box set of the Black Lagoon cartoon?" and again lots of dirty looks got shot my way.
it was funny how upset people seemed to get by referring to this media in its english word rather then the Japanese one, people are odd that way I guess and it's not like it ended there, that was just day one, over the three day convention I got lots of looks of displeasure and more then a few people felt the need to correct me (normally quite rudely) to the point that I found it enjoyable to just outright go around the convention saying cartoon and comic as much as I could when appropriate just so I could enjoy the humor I found came with the reactions I got.
