Is this guy real?
He said that most mexicans coming over the border are rapists and murderers. He believed Obama was hiding his birth certificate because he was a foriegner. He accused the female debate host of being on her period because she questioned him about his previous sexist remarks. He also retweeted someone comment calling her a "bimbo". He has declared bankrupcy repeatedly He has no political experience of any kind.
He is winning the republican primary race at the minute, in order to run for president of the United States.
Everytime he has said something ridiculous, he has actually EXTENDED him lead in the poles. How is this happening? What's going on? He is a freaking Birther with a comb over and people are flocking to his banner? A party that is trying to shed an image of being racist and sexist and only bothered about rich white men...wants to put this guy up as their leader?
I keep thinking he has gone too far and then it just keeps going, like a mad train to crazy town. At this point, maybe people are supporting him because they just really want to see what he does next.

He won't. He is simply too ridiculous to win any national contest. But the extreme base of the republican party seem to eat up the shit hes serving.
I don't think he will actually get the nomination, but the fact he is even in the running is astounding.
If he did get into power, America would be at war with Iran within a year.

I don't understand how they think he would be a good choice; like it or not, if your leader is tactless, ignorant, openly racist, aggressive towards other nations, and dismissive of cooperation with other nations, then you're probably going to wind up alienated.

The way I see it's a very simple fundamental thing we're seeing. He's the GOP's last canidate. So despite shooting his mouth off more than a minigun shoots bullets, he's gonna have their backing , if only so they can get a Republican in the White House.

Previous republican defeats have always been blamed (within the party) on their candidate being not extreme enough. The party base of supporters see the establishment candidates as weak willed sell outs. With each defeat, they keep doubling down that they just need someone right wing enough then they are sure to win. It's like this self perpetuating belief, a repeating meme that keeps building and building.
This belief has now reached its logical conclusion, where the kind of candidate the party wants has to be literally insane to win their support.

Ooops! Sorry! I forgot something!
He mocked John McCain as not being a real war hero because he got captured. Trump said he likes the ones who don't get captured.
Trump has never personally served in the military in any capacity.

I couldn't believe that, what was even harder to believe was that it didn't result in a serious backlash in opinion.

Well, who knows what's up with that. But if I had to guess, it's nice to see someone who's so out there they're the type to have to apologize instead of being P.C from the get go. Shows honesty! That and maybe someone who knows how to make bank like Trump does could help the nation out of it's economic slump. BUT ALL THAT SAID I'M STILL PUTTING A WIG OVER THE MAIN PROBLEM RIGHT!?

Another strange factor is that the tea party types have been conditioned to hate "Political correctness" and the "liberal main stream media" so the idea of a guy who says shocking things and then refuses to apologise for them becomes oddly appealing. When he spouts hateful, ignorant nonsense he is just ignoring political correctness. When he refuses to apologise for it, it just shows that he wont be intimidated by the media and give them what they want.
In this narrative he kinda becomes a heroic figure, fighting the establishment with his brash honesty. He's talking truth to power!
I listened to Rush Limbaugh talk about it and he was saying how great it was that Trump won't back down or be intimidated. He brushed over the whole "Insulting soldiers who fought for their country" thing and focused on the personality of Trump, rather than the content.
That is apparantly how things work now.

Yeah, personality cult. That's a good way to explain it!
He isn't even some kind of die hard conservative. His opinions have varied a lot over the years.
Other than "He says what ever is on his mind", the guy has basically nothing going for him. He is even unpleasent to look at.

Why people like him, in their own words. Some high lights. (times aren't exact.) At 3.25 a woman says Doanld Trump has the common touch and is just like all of them...except for his millions of dollars. At 4 minutes a woman tells why rich people are the real victims in America today, being targets of hate in the media. At 5:30 a man says he first became aware of Trump because he built Trump towers, built a casino and then went bankrupt. 6:20 the woman who said the thing about rich people being victims of hate, explains how she wanted to write letters to Trump as a little girl to learn the secrets of success. at 7:35 a woman says she thinks his presidency would be "classy".

Longer version.Skip ahead to about 17:54 to see new stuff. 19:20 they declare that they don't care about him calling mexicans rapists. To be fair one of them said it was too generalised, though they feel its more about the way he said, not that anything was wrong with the statements content. 20:20 They are slower to respond when told he used to be pro choice on abortion, though the woman who wanted ot write him letters says it improves her view of him. 20:40 they dont mind they have gave big amounts of money to democrats. At 21:17 we find out that most of them didn't know he used to support a single payer health care scheme, suggesting they don't know much about him. This is really interesting stuff!
