Let's start off with an image. So I'm pretty sure this is the cast of the remake, or reboot, or sequel or whatever of Ghostbusters. Either that or someone pulled one over on IMDb. Now I know, for a fact, without any doubt in my mind that this will be a shit movie. Ghostbusters was lightning in a bottle, they couldn't even make a worthwhile sequel with the original cast. It's something that simply can't work again. I don't know why, I just know it can't work again. However, judging from the single image, there are a couple of things I feel the need to applaud. Regardless of how you feel about the gender swap, I'm actually pleased that they chose a bunch of awkward and schlubby looking chicks instead of a bunch of models. Full jumpsuits and not a "chainmail bikini" version of the uniforms. Also the lack of "slicking up the tech". Of course, there might have been cost saving reason for that. Just use the old props from the other movies. Not really feeling the new Ecto-1. Seems cheap. A little updating in that department might have been in order. Or more humorously, cram them all into this. Make the Ecto-1 eco friendly. Just jam even more shit on the top rack to make it top heavy.

I liked the original Ghostbusters but wasn't fanatical about it.
That being said, I don't see anything wrong with this. Doesn't mean it will be good, but the hate I've seen over the female cast is... well... silly.

I dunno. The sequel was decent, in my opinion. Or rather, in my opinion as a 10 year old, since it's when I saw it for the last time. But still.
I gotta agree with you on most points. The car looks pretty underwhelming.

You'd be surprised how many people you can fit into a Mini and still drive it around.

I like the idea of using a Mini in it because it would be a different angle on the jokes. The 59 Caddie ambulance/hearse was a big, old monstrosity. It was ugly with odd proportions making it very recognizable. The concept in the movie was it was something large enough to carry around all their stuff and happened to look ridiculous at the same time. The new one in the first picture is just a later model hearse, 70s or 80s. Ghosts+hearse=haha... but not really. Simply being a hearse isn't enough to make it funny.
Now let's say they use a Mini because it happens to be a car that one of them already owns and they can't afford another one. Let's say they start making modifications to the car, rip out the interior, cut holes in the side panels to run electronics through, put in a rack for the proton packs, give it a new paint job.
At one part one of them turns to the owner and says "Wait, didn't you lease this?"
I donno.
The problem with Ghostbusters 2 was that it was toned down for a younger audience. Even worse it incorporated a lot of elements from the cartoon show. On top of all that they rehashed most of the first movie, putting a lot of similar scenes and story beats in the exact same place as they were in the first movie. It doesn't feel fresh and it doesn't feel like the same world as the first Ghostbusters. It's a world where people swear a little less, smoke a little less, and make you laugh a lot less. All the fun was gone. It has some moments that I liked, but for the most part it needed more heart.

What's more is there were no genuinely frightening scenes in Ghostbusters 2.

No one smoked in Ghostbusters 2 either, if I recall correctly.
It's the little details that matter.

Dan Aykroyd smoked a pipe in one of the early scenes in the occult bookstore, but that was it I think. Dan had a cigarette in half his scenes in the first one. Winston smoked in most of his scenes. I think they all smoked in the jail scene.
