Because I'm a stupid fucking moron who forgot to disable automatic updates, I now have the telemetry update in windows 8.1. Curiously, I also noticed this suddenly happened to my C drive. Windows is now just downloading Windows 10 to your computer, in case you decide to upgrade later, apparently--all to a hidden folder. At this point I might as well upgrade, which, bravo Microsoft considering that was your game plan all along.

Is... is Windows 7 safe?

I don't think. Check your C Drive and see if that "$Windows.~BT" folder is there.

Guys, chill out. It's sneaky, but only wastes your disk/bandwidth. Once it's there, it doesn't really matter.
You better go find those telemetry bugs!

I'll check whenever I bother to switch from my Linux partition.

I'll check whenever I bother to switch from my Linux partition. What distro do you use?

Is Mint compatible with Steam and Skype, Can? I'm wondering because I was considering trying to use it on my laptop.

Mint can run steam and some of their games for Linux as it is a Ubuntu derivative. Skype also can work on it.
Of course, sometimes installing these things gets a little complex on Linux.

I see thanks (I'm really not good with computers but I don't know anyone who would be able to help me with installing things; I think I'd need them to be wherever I was while we did it).

No problem. Steam should be easy to install. I still don't recall how I managed Skype.

Skype provides packages for download from its page. If Mint is Ubuntu based, then select Ubuntu/Debian one (or otherwise the file with .deb extension).
Steam was more tricky for me, but I don't have an Ubuntu based distro, and the only version Steam offers is nominally for Ubuntu 12 (which is quite old by now). I'd suggest googling if someone made a Mint package/repo for Steam, on the off chance that it might work better.
Either way, if Steam is complaining at startup that video acceleration is not available, write here, you might need to run a little script.

I'm not sure how to use scripts or .deb extensions (thanks for the advice but I'd sooner not risk messing up my laptop due to the possibility of ending up needing someone else to fix it if I do something wrong; I think I tried getting Ubuntu a while back and I was advised not to bother while trying to ask for advice about how to get it to work because of certain problems I was having suggesting I'd really struggle with it).
