Anyone using Windows 10 on the Harkovast forums yet? Anyone planning to not use it? If you are using it, does the forum work in edge?

I'm going to avoid it; when my old computer automatically updated to Windows 9 (or was it 8?) it didn't work and I didn't have a computer for the better part of 2 days.

Windows 10 is "technically" 9. But for branding reasons, and the way they plan to handle future windows updates, it's just 10. Anyway I would definitely not recommend win10 for someone as privacy conscious as you Renard. They increased a lot of the types of diagnostic data they send to Microsoft now--with limited to zero options to disable that. EDIT: Something like this kind of outlines them and to what extent what can be disabled. They definitely didn't make it user friendly in that regard lol.

I think Wordweaver was stuck with it.

Not in the least. It's like Facebook telling me to add all kinds of extra information to my account to make it more secure, because nothing says "secure" like giving a website my home and mobile number, and linking it to my Google account.

What? Why would you not trust a faceless corporation?

Well, when you put it that way I start thinking it might be a good idea. I think I'll also store my bank account details in Facebook notes, and photos of important documents and my passport on Photobucket.

I'm not on windows 10 yet. I'm not realy clear on the point of upgrading. The advantages seem kind of obscure to me.

I've "preodered" the upgrade when it was offered to me; curiously, whole month has passed and I've not gotten the option to actually upgrade yet. I don't think I'm going to go through with it, anyway. Now that we know that Microsoft behaved like Microsoft usually does, by copying a shady business practice while being even more of a colossal dick about it. Facebook and Google slurp our data, but at least it's the data we're giving them. Microsoft won't be satisfied with less then everything we do on the computer. I mean, they install a keylogger, a fucking keylogger! I fully expect Microsoft to double down on this bullshit eventually, like they did with whole bunch of stuff on Xbox One and Vista before. But first they'll scoop what they can from hapless people who upgrade immediately. Also, in the name of equal opportunities, Microsoft pushed the same spying updates on Windows 7; I'm lucky that I couldn't be bothered to install any updates recently (I rarely log into Windows, so I usually get a whole bunches of upgrades, which I install at some point). I'd advise to not install any updates to Win7 anymore, lest they push an update that makes it impossible to disable updates. I only use Windows for gaming, and 7 will suffice. I still have some games to beat (like the Dragon Age series), and in the future, well, the so called "triple A" games are getting shittier by the year, and most indie titles run just fine on Linux (seriously, it's like a golden age we never dreamed would come to pass; I thought we'd forever be stuck with a bunch of shooters made on Quake 3 engine). I hope distro companies (like Red Hat and Canonical) as well as Valve will make a push for publicity for Linux; it's the best opportunity in years. Hell, it's thanks to Windows 10 we have a functional version of Steam on Linux, inept as it may be. Valve was afraid of Microsoft doing exactly the shit like this. By the way, anyone else thinks that the name "Windows 10" is stupid as hell? Not only they had to skip 9 (and in this sense, Win10 is not really 10), but Microsoft also claims it's the last version of Windows ever and since now they're going to only offer incremental upgrades. So why not use some cute little name, like XP and Vista before? Or hell, do like videogame franchise reboots do it lately and just call it "Windows".

If you like gaymin, DX12 support is going to be the standard probably in a few years if less. Boot times are faster too. The windows app ecosystem also behaves less stupidly on Win10. Support for other windows versions is only going to decrease in the coming years and security support will eventually die out too.
