That's pretty cynical.
Just wait until he hears that researchers want to be cautious about landing rovers and sensors too close to sources of water, for fear of contaminating any micro-organisms that could be living there. He'd probably say it's another example of environmentalism going too far, or that they're trying to hide the fact that there is no life on Mars.

I love Bill Nye. He had an incredible ability to take complex science concepts and theories and make them understandable on his show back in the day. These folks had no respect for him at all and I can't believe how stupid they came off sounding.
Actually, no, I can believe it. All day long I have to deal with self absorbed a-holes who have no appreciation for how awesome the time period they were born in is. "I can't stand the 7 hour fight to L.A", yeah, well 150 years ago that trip took 7 months. And it wasn't jackasses like you that took the trip, it was visionaries like Bill Nye that did it.
Water on Mars? Huge. If we find life in that water? Fuckin' Earth shattering. Beyond even what Bill suggested that life may have originated on Mars. It would mean that everywhere we ever found liquid water we also found life. Which means life may be more pervasive than we ever imagined.
However, I'm not actually holding out much hope that they actually will find life there. We've been fooled before.

Incredibly salty water is not conducive to life as we know it.
At the same time, expecting life to be as we know it may be a bit much.
And watch certain religious types flip their shit at the idea of life elsewhere. Not all, obviously, but certain ones.

If life can figure out how to live in boiling acid pools around volcanoes it can figure out how to live just about anywhere.

Urgh I could barely finish that. It was like weaponised stupid. A guy is telling you we could be on the cusp of literally learning about our own place in the universe and how life on earth began...and the response is just "I don't care." Its idiocy worn as a badge of honour. They were genuinely proud of how stupid they both sounded and how utterly devoid of imagination or curiousity they were. He even gave them clear examples of how this stuff had impacted their lives and they refused admit it was of any use to them. The guys own responses could be used to refute themselves. He said we should be worrying abotu Trump for President or ISIS....couldnt you make those same dumb arguments about those things? Why should I worry about Trump and ISIS? I'm late for work, I'm hungry, I want to watch sit coms. You can take any human knowledge and say "why bother? Just worry about day to day stuff. It's logic that leads to everyone living in caves rubbing sticks together.
I love when he tells the woman that 40% is less than half and she seems annoyed. What did she expect? She already claimed she couldn't understand anything he said (I have no idea what she could fail to udnerstand in such a simply explanation!) and she literally asked what 40% means. If you are going to play the fool don't act shocked when people treat you like a fool.
The Irony that the bloke there is complaining about Trump is that Trump is bad because he represents and ignorant, arrogant visions of America. The moron here arguing with Bill shouldn't be complaining about Trump, he should be cheering for him! Trump would give him a USA as scientifically illiterate, devoid of curiousity and proud of being thoughtless as he is!

The moderator wasn't much help there either. I mean he literally starts off with: "Should we give a shit about water on Mars" after saying he's excited about it.
And you got two incredibly stupid people there with someone who is smart. Stupid people tend to take contradictory options simply because they think it makes them sound smarter.
I felt so bad for Bill. Just being in the room with those people prolly knocked off a few IQ points.

Those two turn up dead. They have "this is how science affects you" carved into their arms, clearly before they were viciously stabbed to death. Three days later the police find Bill Nye, rocking back and forth in a fetal position, clutching a space age titanium knife. www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1495034/posts

The very question "should we give a shit about it" is so astounding. Earth shattering discovering that could change our understanding of what it is to be human? Should I give a shit or not? If you even have to ask you are basically beyond help.
