Sorry I realised that just after posting it. Fixed now! The Panther claws are even ready for boarding actions (though they are a little dusty as I havne't played 40k in years and years!) The Panther Claws leader, Gilgamesh, is an unstable, arrogant psychopath, who is heavily controlled by manipulative members of the Inquisition. They use appeals to his ego and blood lust to manipulate the chapter towards their own ideological goals.

Aside from being manipulated by the Inquisition, how is that any different from most Space Marine leaders?

Insularity? Booo. Self-reliant? Yay! Insane madman puppet leader? Booooo. And I liked their colour scheme too...Hrrrmf. Ah well, it'd fit the setting to be a goody-two shoes working for these guys!

Chapter Masters are always these super awesome, heroic guys who are great at sword fighting and tactics and stuff. I thought it would be fun to have one who is a total arsehole who really shouldn't be incharge of anything!
Most of the marines are brave and rightious warriors, (such as the fearsome Captain Varax) and some even secretly don't like their leaders conduct (such as the gifted Captain Apothis), but since he is their master they have to obey.
Dalgross is a grim world of bleak deserts and dangerous jungles. Across the surface, techno-barbarian gangs wage constant war with each other for resources.
The Panther Claws give the gangs gifts of weapons, fuel and narcotics in exchange for genetically pure young men. The warlords don't know, or much care, what their young people are taken for, being unable to see past their own petty squabbles.
The Panther Claws desire the planet to be in constant conflict, so their recruits will be conditioned to violence and hardship even before they are enhanced to be marines. If one faction becomes too powerful, they will cease supplying it and instead back its rivals, or give supplies to disidants within that faction in the hopes of causing it to break up. A peaceful Dalgross would not be tolerated.
The Panther Claws initiates retain little of their old personalities from their harsh, violent upbringings, but sometimes a few memories creepy through. Many Panther Claws Marines paint their armour with aggressive or mocking slogans, the meanings of which they often can't entirely remember, a last remnant of their old gang allegiances.
The Panther Claws also have large mining and processing vacilities on the planet, manned by loyal chapter serfs, taking its rich resources for their own purposes. The simple guns and make shift vehicles of the warlords are no match for the massive cannons defending these instalations and the warlords are careful to keep a safe distance from them. Anyone getting close would recieve no warning before being obliterated.

WELLP. Back to looking for a chapter I'd fit in with, because brainwashing from being a post-apocalpyse biker is a step too far for me!

Hahaha yeah I wouldn't want to join them!
I like that these guys are quite unified in their ship designs and colours, in contrast to the varied crusade fleet. It makes a cool contrast.

I've sadly come to the conclusion that the only semi-reasonable chapters out there are the Ultramarines (bloody smurfs) and the Blood Ravens, who aren't even really canon but at least they like knowledge.

Blood Ravens are canon these days. Blood Angels players resent them for stealing their lime light.
In campaigns I was planning for the crusade fleet to fill the more rightious, incorruptible role. I thought that would make a good contrast. I didn't want my chapter to be loveable mary sues. This is grim dark 40K! I wanted to make them kinda flawed and corrupted, like the Imperium they defend.
Being true to the imperial creed doesn't make you a nice guy. The Imperium is a racist, facist, religious extremist nightmare regime from hell! It is described as the bloodiest regime imaginable. Supporting it or any of its ideals is not a good thing by any standard we hold now.
The nicest space marines are the salamanders. They really care about common people and view protecting the innocent to be a big part of their job. They gave the Marines Malevolent a dressing down during the 3 rd armageddon war for MM's disregard for civilian casualties they caused by firing artillery in to a refugee camp the orks were holding hostage. They are the closest you will get to good space marines.

Salamanders? Great.
And anything that pisses off the Blood Angels is good in my books.
