I like to think we all have those bits of media growing up that we were definitely to young to of watch at the time. you know the RoboCops and horror movies that should of been kept out of reach when we were young but where instead just lined up amount the Disney movies.
Me personally it wasn't so much movies but was cartoons. two such cartoons that has actually allowed me to be part of a viewing generation even though I was ten years younger then the expected audience.
the first of these shows that has had a little more staying power with me was Undergrads, it first aired in 2001 and had a viewer warning for 17+ and was only on late at night. now I was born in 1993 so that would make me 8 when I was staying late to watch this adult orientated show about 4 friends and their first semester of college. it dealt with sex and alcohol which is likely what gave it the adult rating, but it also dealt with themes of finding ones self and friendship, though I didn't notice this till viewing when I was much older. Looking back on it now I'm glad it was a part of my life though I can't help but think I shouldn't of watched it when I did. I totally recommend checking it out, it's a Canadien cartoon and is actually rather funny and insightful on what it's like starting to have more adult responsibilities while also having very memorable characters, and honestly I think everyone needs more Gimpy in their lives.
the second cartoon I watched that is definitely more popular and well known was CloneHigh. originally airing in 2003 making me just 10 when I originally watched it. I don't remember to much about it, unlike Undergrads I can really only say I've seen CloneHigh in its entirety once and only rewatched a few episodes here and there when I got older. the show like Undergrads also had a 17+ rating and also dealt with sexual content, one of the goals of the character Abe was to get to sleep with Cleo after all. the show mainly centered around Abe, Jone and Gandi, following their misadventures as they go through high school. I wouldn't say I'm the best person to talk about this show but I would say totally go watch it, it has to been seen to be believed, and I mean who doesn't want to watch a show where Marilyn Manson shows up to voice himself and sing about eating healthy.
well these are just two of the shows that I really shouldn't of as a kid. Maybe if others share then I'll write more about other things I watched I'm sure I really shouldn't of.
