Harkovast is often wracked by terrible war between mighty warriors.
But warriors need commanders!
The finest fighters with the most powerful magic won't get far without a general to lead them.
Harkovast has many great commanders, so I thought people might enjoy me listing some of the best ones.
Whats more, I'm going to do what the internet loves best and rank them in order!
4- Dame Dandevette- Eslum Commander.
Dandevette takes after her mother as a knight of Cingordo. She has absolute loyalty to Prince Tremenzo and utter devotion to the Eslum rules of war.
Her cold, calculating mind considers warfare dispassionately and destroying her enemies ruthlessly.
Due to the Eslum rules of war, she restrains her forces from launching all out warfare against rival Eslum nations. This should not, however, be taken to mean that she hasn't considered these things. If unrestrained (such as against foreign invaders) she would unleash terrible destruction on her enemies.
Her armies know she is a harsh leader, but know that she will do everything in her power to deliver them victory.
The reason she is in forth place is that she is highly experienced in the set piece battles of the Eslum, she is not as familiar in the use of asymetrical warfare, guerrilla tactics and the use of lighter units or skirmishes.
3-King Craggarg- Ruler of the Cansaibe
Craggarg has spent his entire life at war with various enemies, in Jaydia and Vellastrom. Currently in exile after his kingdom was invaded in his absence, his people look to him for leadership and remain sure that eventually he will deliver them from bondage.
Craggarg's main advantage is that he is familiar with a vast array of fighting styles and tactics.
He has fought along side and against enemies on two continents, as a commander of large armies and as a guerrilla fighter.
Craggarg inspires unshakeable devotion in the Cansaibe, who are literally willing to die if he orders it.
Craggarg is a great commander, but the final two entries are simply so far above what normal leaders are capable of that they are in a class of their own.
2- Praetor Dominius- Ivos General
Dominius was originally a lowly centurion, rather than a noble like most Ivos leaders. He took command of his legion when their commander was killed, leading them to victory.
In the years since, he has never been defeated in battle.
He turned the tide of the war the Ivos were losing to the Darsai and then turned the tide against the the Nameless invasion.
Dominius earns the respect of friends and foes on the battlefield, and holds his armies to the highest standards of discipline and ethics. He understands well that showing mercy to enemies is a good way to encourage them to surrender more often!
His tactics are revolutionary and flawless, leaving opponents baffled, often unsure of how the odds were turned against them so effortlessly.
Talented enemies struggle to oppose him and merely competent ones find their forces taken to pieces with lethal efficiency.
He can quickly gain and understanding of his enemies, their strengths and weaknesses and work out how to crush them rapidly.
His main focus is on the destruction of the Nameless and their masters, and he knows as much as anyone alive on the powers of limitations of the West's rank and file warriors.
Even outside of the Ivos, Dominius' achievements on the battlefield have earned him acclaim across Vellastrom.
Even the priests of the West are aware of him, and fear his presence (though voices such concerns could lead to summary execution from their superiors for a lack of faith.)
1- The Last- Evil of Light.
The Last is probably the greatest mind in Harkovast.
Anything he turns his thoughts to, he will master, including warfare.
He is virtually impossible to surprise or outwit, being able to immediately gain a total understanding of the situation and his surroundings, with an insight that is almost super natural.
Once confronted with an enemy he will rapidly come to understand their abilities and motivations, as well as their intentions.
He cares for practicality and reason rather than faith and dogma, unlike many of the West's minions.
He does not attack his enemies vindictively or motivated by emotion, but with perfect logical and understanding. He actual feels sympathy for those he has to destroy, but this does nothing to make him hesitate to destroy them.
The only possible weakness he might have is that he is not completely trusted by the King in the West and takes little interest in the politics between the various Evils. This means that he is often not put in the position of authority where he could guide the war effort and use his genius effectively.
Though this is a Weakness in the West's organisation, rather than a weakness in his own character.
On the battlefield he is the most fearsome commander an army could face.
And special BONUS AWARD!
Best Naval Commander-
The Mariner- Evil of Water.
The Eslum are masters of naval warefare, and the Mariner is possibly the most gifted of all Eslum. He understands all elements of fighting at sea, and has even designed many war ships himself. Amongst these are his new flag ship, a massive vessel built around a strange catamaran design. Known as the Lance of the West, it renders even other Eslum vessels obsolete. Fortunately for Vellastrom, the amount of resources and precision construction and magic required to create it limits it to being a unique vessel for the moment.
At sea he has no equal, and during his time as Prince of Cingordo his enemies had to virtually abandon the oceans, as trying to oppose him in ships without a massive advantage in numbers was futile.
