When Larry Wilmore became the monster

I didn't really get a feeling that anyone here was saying that US, or indeed US police, is "good".

It may as well be a sense of unfairness. I don't thing you're wrong here.

But at the same time, I really have issues with this instance being presented as equivalent to US police brutality. For one, it's taking a remotely related issue with real victims and making it all about themselves.
It's essentially "punching down" against oppressed Northern Korean dissidents by presenting the NK government not as a criminal regime it is, but as a "force of nature to be respected" thing, kind of like rape victims are told that they "should know better and not feel invincible" while getting drunk on a night out.

One could say that black people have more of a right to do this; heaven knows we had lots and lots of instances when white people took black people's struggle and made it all about themselves. But I disagree with this. It gets us down to Oppression Olympics.

It's not really anything new. Populists like Trump do it all the time. It's essentially the same as the "Muslim Ban", which didn't really target most Muslims or any terrorists, but ignorant people were happy anyway. "See how well we can protect our people with this meaningless gesture!"

Well one key difference is that when American cops kill people, thats illegal.
They are breaking the law. They get away with it most of the time but there is no sense that they are meant to act that way.

In North Korea this shit gets ordered by the Dear Leader himself.

They really aren't the same.

Also as well as saying we dont care about people brutalised in America, Canuovea, you are now implying we dont care about people in North Korea.

You argument seems to boil down to "there are problems in America, therefore americans have no room to criticise anything that happens in any other country."

Don't get me wrong, Obama did plenty of shitty stuff but this feels like you are diverting from what we are actually talking about.

If Wilmore and Huffpo and the rest had just not had much to say about the North Korea thing, I wouldn't be roasting them here.
People are allowed different priorities!
The reason I am mad at them (and others are here) is that they went the next step and started actively CHEERING about what happened to Otto.
In the same way, if police violence isn't a topic someone cares a lot about, that's fine, they don't have to care about the same stuff I do. They probably care about things I don't care about. But when they start saying "Those black kids had it coming!" Then we've crossed a line into being an asshole.

Now to get back on topic-
Larry Wilmore made an apology!
I was kinda hopeful at first, like maybe he realised what he had done and was going to make amends.
I'm harsh, but I at least try to be fair, so I was all set to forgive.
But in my view, his apology was VERY lacking.
Judge for yourself.
Larry paints himself as having made some kind of smart and insightful point in warning us all about the dangers of North Korea.
I was thinking it was going to be something like "I'm so sorry I said those horrible, cruel things." Like he really realised he had horribly crossed a line.
Instead he complains that its "unfortunate" that he has been labeled as "evil or "disgusting" for saying such horrific things about a man being sent to his death.
“When I do comedy, I go after issues, things that can be very divisive, I get called names all the time. I really accept that. It’s part of the big boy pants that you have to have."
Oh yeah, Wilmore YOU getting called names is the big issue here, you self obsessed prick.
“I would never try to defend doing this comedy show against the loss of your child. To Fred and Cindy Warmbier, I humbly apologize that the words on those shows may have diminished the value in people’s eyes of what your son certainly meant to you."

May have dimnished? He called the guy a cry baby while he was begging for his life!

Wilmore clearly doesn't think there was anything fundamentally wrong.
He is sorry if there was anything that upset the family in there, but he clearly stands by the basic premise of what he was doing.

Wilmore could have earned a reprieve...but instead he has made me even more annoyed at him
To make me feel better....lets talk about another segment of his show.
His shit comedy show failed to really have any of its lame, race obsessed content go viral...except one segment.

Get ready to become extremely angry and disappointed in the human race.
Larry is here to bring Idiocracy to life.

My second favourite bit was when Bill Mocks the idiot woman who asks idiot questions to try to be funny and makes a fool of herself. News flash! If you act like an idiot, people are doing to start responding to you like you are an idiot.
My FAVOURITE bit is more subtle.
A bit after 5.50, Wilmore loses his audience and its the one thing in this depressing shit fest that gives me hope for the human race.
As much as Wilmore wants to paint this idea that everyone is bored of science and hates learning with his two douch bag guests rolling their eyes and sneering at every thing they are told, the audience don't buy his bullshit.
He is so busy pushing this idea that no one cares about Mars and no one is interested, but then the audience cheers Bill and Wilmore has to quickly backtrack and explain that he agrees with Bill quickly.

I thought Wilmore was a comedian, turns out he is just a joke.

Fortunately his idiotic, racist, anti science shit fest of a show has been cancelled.
I know, really upsetting! Where will I get jokes that consist of putting the word black in things now? (No really, that was about 50% of the jokes.)

Fuck off, Wilmore, fuck right off.

Hahah I probably did, but I think after such an astounding display of racism and cruel, Wilmore deserved another rake over the coals.

His show has since been cancelled.
