So there they did a film where Rocky trains Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed.
I havne't seen it but its meant to be pretty good.
Now they are making a sequel and in this sequel, the Russian baddie Ivan Drago comes back( the man who killed Adonis' dad in the ring), and apparently Creed will fight his son.
Now, when I first heard the idea that Dolph Lungren would reprise his role as Drago I was excited, but then when I heard he has an evil son they have to fight I was disappointed.
The thing is...when I first heard it I thought Drago was going to be a goodie.
Hear me out...
Okay so I was thinking something like Adonis has to fight some Russian opponent and its a bit raw for him because his dad died there.
I was thinking Rocky might have died between films (since they had him with cancer in teh last one, though apparantly hes better now in teh actual Creed 2) and then he sees Drago at the Funeral, but Drago runs off before he can catch up with him.
So his head not in the gmae because he's thinking about Drago, so he's gotta sort shit out.
the idea would be that when they get to Russia he tracks do Drago, who is now relatively poor and living in anomynity. After the soviet union collapsed he was cast by the way side, and steroid rumours ruined his career ( adn the steroids affected his health.)
Adonis goes in ready to kick this guys ass and settle the score.
Instead, he finds that Drago is regretful for what he did, as he was young and brainwashed and only later realised the implications of his actions.
He wishes he could turn back the clock but have to live with his mistakes.
But here is the big twist...to win the big fight....
ADONIS GETS TRAINED BY DRAGO!
This allowed Drago to find redemption, and Adonis to find closure and forgiveness... and helps him win the big match.
maybe Drago warns him that the Russian boxers are all roided up as the testing standards are very lax. When Adonis questions how he can win against that, Drago tells him that Rocky found a way. That would be really cool.
But from what I've read, I think Drago will just be an evil guy, and he has an evil son and I guess Adonis has to beat him for 'merica.
Drago was a very silly character even at the time, so to treat him the same way will seem ridiculous in the more realistic recent Rocky films.
The idea that he just gets revenge by beating up the son of the guy that killed his dad...I dont give a shit about that story. I know he's going to win, who cares?
I also worry a bit its goign to try to trade on the current anti russian sentiment going around in America, which will just make the whole thing seem tasteless.
The idea that Drago is more than just the mindless monster he seemed to be (after all, we didnt' really learn much abotu what he was actually like as a person in the last film, he was just a big blonde bruiser.)
So I'm a bit disappointed now...but we will see how it pans out.
