Ket is immature, so that's intended. Although the "make me a guide in one year" part wasn't, but conveying such a misunderstanding to the reader can be useful in storytelling.
I like to dole out information slowly. At the very least I don't want to info dump until I'm certain the reader is interested enough in the character to actually retain the information. Letting the readers know that Ket intends to die is enough right here. The "why" can float in the aether for a while.
This chapter is just to get across certain information about the characters. They're both sexually active. Despite that their relationship is not sexual in nature (ample opportunity to engage in it but no suggestion of it). Onu is willing to go against established norms. There is some conflict between the two. They have an agreement that is set to expire in one year. Training a guide should take MUCH longer than a year. This conflicting information is on top of Ket's desire to end her life.
I don't know about upside down. Seems once you open them up everything will fall in the face and it will come off as more silly than scary.
