At the freight train yard, there are three Kriegtier guards manning the check point to get in.
Todeshander goes up to them and starts explaining (in German) that he is on an important mission from the air martial and that him the workers he is travelling with are not to be impeded.
The others stand back from the conversation, with Ronin quietly translating what is being said.
The lead guard is deferential to Todeshandler, and explains that he is will just need to take their paper work and check it with his superiors and he will be allowed to let them pass.
Todeshandler says this won’t be necessary, and he must be allowed to go ahead immediately.
The guard is apologetic, but insists he must follow procedure, and it will only take a few minutes to authorise.
Todeshandler pulls rank, threatening dire punishment if the guard continues to bother him.
The guard begins to become frustrated with Todeshandler’s unreasonable demands and starts responding angrily.
Even without Ronin translating, it would be obvious that the situation is going down hill.
Everyone starts to reach for their weapons, getting ready for possible trouble.
Hazard, who used to work for Black Ops US special forces, surprises her colleagues by saying “The Kriegtears armour is, like, fake. You could beat them to death with a baseball bat. They only give real body armour to special units.”
Trace tells Paradox to use the Wu to get this under control.
However, as Paradox raises her hands to use her powers to try to calm the argument, Todeshandler suddenly draws a Luger Pistol and shoots the three guards dead.
The rest of the group are quite stunned at this shockingly rash course of action.
Todeshandler shouts for them to follow him, saying the trains are automated, so will still leave if they get on one.
Flare points out that the authorities will know where the train is headed so can stop it on route or be waiting for them when they arrive.
Todeshandler, who is clearly making this up as he goes along now, grabs a radio from a dead guard and says he can call his superiors on route and have them picked up from the train. He insists they can still make this work, though it feels as if he is trying to convince himself as much as the others at this point.
With no other options, they rush into the train yard, hearing the sounds of more Kreigtier guards rushing to stop them.
In addition to the sounds of the automated trains coming and going, they hear the sound of loud machinery and a repetitive, heavy thudding.
The source of this sound becomes evident as two hulking mechanical walkers come into view around one of the buildings!
These heavily armed war machines are about twice the height of a man, and there central section holding a driver who looks out through a small slit.
Herr Schneider cries out in fear as one of the walkers blasts him with it’s arm mounted flame thrower, engulfing him in fire and rapidly incinerating him.
As the others flee, Todeshandler seems suddenly stunned into inaction.
He stands looking shocked, forcing Steel to grab him by the arm and pull him along with him.
Steel insists he tell them the way to the train before they all get killed.
Todeshandler’s normally steely disposition seems to have abruptly collapsed, and he appears to be in a state of shock, but he recovers his wits enough to show them the way.
The group splits up as they run through the train yard, attempting to evade guards and reach the train to escape. Though only Todeshandler knows the correct train, they all have the general direction in which to flee and the situation is too panicked for them to properly organise.
Two Kriegtier guards step out from around the side of parked train in front of Steel and Todeshandler, about ten feet from them.
Steel uses his scythe blades to bat aside one mans gun and the takes the man down with a kick and then hits the other in the stomach with his blade.
Todeshandler recovers enough to shoot the kicked guard so they can continue running.
Steel grabs and assault rifle from a fallen guard and fires it wildly as they go, hitting nothing but at least forcing chasing guards to seek cover. Steel is enthusiastic when it comes to using fire arms, but not very effective!
As guards close in, Flare and Trace dart under a train to hide and then spring out on a group of five Kriegtier guards as they pass.
Hazard’s information proves accurate, as kicks are able to dent and collapse the thin metal the Kriegtiers armour is made from. It is clearly just created for show rather than for any practical purpose.
Flare is physically strong and wields two short swords, while Trace has a sawnoff pump action shotgun and her super powered kicks, and they scatter the surprised soldiers with their unexpected attack.
Flare flings her two swords into one of them, and then kicks another in the head, partially collapsing the face mask on the man’s helmet.
Another one strikes at her with a swing of his rifle, which she evades and punches him in the stomach, denting his fake armour and causing him to stumble back.
The kriegtier draws his knife (a Hitler youth knife, which oddly still says Adolf Hitler on it, even though he was unpersoned by the kriegtier regime) and slashes at her.
Flare leaps back, onto the ground, pulling a short sword from the man she previously killed and hurls it into this attackers neck, killing him.
Trace sends Kriegtier flying with the impact of her kicks, before finishing them off with her shot gun.
With these opponents dead or incapacitated the two of them continue to rush in the direction of Todeshandler was pointing them.
Ronin, Paraodox and Bulletproof seek cover against one of the trains see an armoured mech approaching.
Ronin asks if Paradox can distract it with her powers. She says yet, but she would need to get closer.
Bulletproof picks her up under his arm and rushes towards the mech. When it opens fire with its arm mounted gatling gun, he drops low, turning his back to shield Paradox, the bullets deflecting from his armoured shell in hails of sparks. It shreds his shirt, but doesn’t harm him.
Seeing his chance, Ronin rushes the mech, holding his sword in one hand and an automatic pistol in the other.
He shoots two Kriegtier who step into view, taking aim and firing with remarkable speed and accuracy, without pausing his rush.
As he gets closer the mech turns towards him, raising its weapon.
Ronin trusts in Paradox, weaving as he runs but continuing to attack.
The war machine seems like it is about to fire, but then pauses, hesitating from Paradox’s power influencing its pilot.
Ronin jumps onto its arm, runs up it, leaps at the things body and drives his sword through the viewing slit.
The mech’s arms drop by its sides and it stands motionless.
As Ronin leaps away from a it, his sword pulls an arch of blood from it, leaving a red trail running down from the viewing slit.
Bulletproof stands up, still carrying Paradox, and runs for the train, with Ronin following.
More Kriegtier troops, who have climb on top of a train car, start to fire down on them with assault rifles.
Fortunately they fire at the biggest, most threatening target, which is Bulletproof, who stops running and holds up and armoured arm to protect him and Paradox.
Ronin shoots one of the Kriegtier before darting behind Bulletproof to reload.
Hazard suddenly emerges, holding two automatic pistols.
She uses one to rest her other arm on to aim, and when that pistol empties she switches her arms to put the still loaded pistol on top to continue firing.
She quickly shoots the remaining Kriegtier who are firing down at Bulletproof, allowing the group to continue fleeing.
Steel and Todeshandler reach the correct train and start climbing inside through an open hatch.
Bulletproof, Ronin, Paradox and Hazard arrive next, rushing towards the train.
However, the second mech comes into view!
Paradox tells the others to run and she will take care of it.
Bulletproof puts her down and she rushes up to the mech.
She holds up both her hands, and the war machine moves towards her, lowering its guns. Clearly the driver is momentarily confused by her powers.
Before he can recover…his mech is hit by an on coming freight train and shattered into scrap!
Paradox then rushes for the train.
The last to reach it are Flare and Trace. Bulletrpoof helps grab them and pull them inside as the train pulls away.
Every ducks down from gun fire from the guards as the train leave the freight yard and heads out of the city.
Todeshandler still seems to be in shock.
He says in despair that it was his duty to protect Herr Schneider, and he has failed in that task, thus dishonouring himself.
Hazard asks if he and Schneider were friends, to which Todeshandler respond no with apparently confusing, as if her question was strange and irrelevant.
Trace grows angry with the Kriegtier, slapping him and telling him to get his shit together and call his superiors.
Todeshandler recovers his senses enough to nod and comply.
Paradox says she isn’t comfortable with them killing other Adaptives.
Hazard says confidently that “Sometimes it’s, like, okay because sometimes Adaptives aren’t really adaptives so its okay to kill them. That’s what Judgement said.”
Flare points out that this is the logic they used to slaughter Chimera.
Trace gets annoyed at this, telling Flare to shut up and angrily telling Hazard that Judgement didn’t say that!
Hazard looks quiet distraught at this, and Paradox comforts her.
There is uncomfortable silence as the train ride continues.
Suddenly, the train comes to a halt.
Opening the side door they see a bright spot light from outside, as a vertical take off and landing vehicle, with side mounted engines hovering close by.
Todeshandler says that this was sent by his superiors.
The vehicle floats above the ground, opening a hatch to let them inside.
The vehicle has a single Kriegtier pilot who does not speak to them, but simply closes the hatch and flies upwards.
Far above, amongst the clouds they approach a huge air ship, adorned with Nazi iconography.
They dock with the gondola it is carrying.
The interior is dark and industrial, with many Kriegtier guards within.
Todeshandler leads them through the hangar and down the ships corridors.
Strangely, they now start to hear classical music playing.
They enter a chamber that is in stat contrast with the rest of the ship.
It is warm, well lit and beautifully furnished, with book shelves, a chandelier and a grammar phone that is playing the music they are hearing.
A fat Kriegtier is being fitted for a new uniform by several attractive young blonde human women in uniforms with skirts and their hair in buns.
He greets them warmly and invites them to sit.
He puts on a jacket, saying that this uniform isn’t done yet, but it will do for an informal meeting.
He introduces himself as Air Martial Blutregen, and apologises for the rather over the top name. He says they are meant to make the Kriegtier seem fearsome, but their enemies aren’t going to hear their names on the battlefield, so it’s really quite ridiculous.
He offers them drinks from a large cabinet and cigars (which he insists are good quality ones, as he cannot abide cheap cigars.)
Todeshandler elects to stand, and confesses to the Air Martial that he failed in his duty and let Herr Schneider die.
The Air Martial looks puzzled and questions who Herr Schneider is.
Todeshandler explains that he was the human agent he was supposed to body guard.
The Air Martial waves his hand and says not to worry about it.
Clearly he gave out the mission quite casually.
The Air Martial says the trouble they had getting here will be blamed on partisans or terrorists, so won’t be a problem.
He wants them to enjoy his hospitality before they get down to business, explaining “We are not all barbarians.”
(The cracks are starting to show in the mission, can our heroes hold things together long enough to save Oracle and escape?
Now they've encountered the Air Martial, who was not at all as expected. Despite his friendly demeanor, there can be little doubt that he has an evil agenda in which our heroes will be pawns. What will happen next?
This is as far as we got, so you'll have to wait to find out what the Air Martial is up to!)
