Hunh. Charmeleon Adaptive, I'm guessing not just in form but in ability. Wonder if she's in control of herself with doing that though?

The problem with forums is that sometimes I post something interesting at the bottom of a page, so people dont realise it's there and miss it. So if you didn't see it, scroll back a page. In other news...I just read an article that basically seems to argue that Weird Britannia is really racist. Like real world racist, not just against imaginary animals or something. Like racist against actual minority groups, black women in particular. You just can't win these days....

The chameleon being is fascinating.
…And the article is awful (reminds me I should sometime still write this article about why "appeal to coding" is really terrible, since it's apparently still going on), but I don't see how it relates to Weird Britannia.

Well its about the sci fi trope of a world where people don't do racism based on skin colour or things we are racist about, so all colours of human are treated as equal but then are all racist to some other group. Weird Britannia is full of that kind of thing.
In particular the author doesn't like seeing black people being the ones being racist, or being accused of racism.
It's actually weirdly an incredibly racist idea, as it suggests there is something fundamentally different between black and white people so we can't have black people in a role we would expect for white people. It sort of suggests that depicting anything where our ideas about race have changed is not acceptable.
In Weird Britannia it is very deliberate that we see humans of all colours in various roles regarding being racist or not...I dunno if all the racist ones were white that would seem kinda racist and patronising to me. I was going for a range of attitudes from different groups.
The idea that if situations were different there is no way black people or other minorities could be the ones being racist just seems absurd to me, like its in direct contradiction to what I see in the real world.

Oh couple of fun facts- The Chameleon character is called Mimic and appeared as a character concept in the very original ideas for Weird Britannia. We liked the idea of someone who was totally unable to fit in with society, and a more subtle form of shape shifting or invisibility, where the person can blend in with the crowd to avoid being seen. But despite being a cool, weird idea, Mimic didn't end up getting used back when the game was first played. Basically she is the last thing from the original version I haven't done a shout out or reference to so far so she is long over due!
Also she got gender flipped. Mimic was originally planned as a dude, but I thought it was turning into a bit of a sausage fest, so I changed her to a be a chick.

Oh, hi Mystique from X-Men.
I mean, not in form, but almost in function.

Hmm I guess I didn't explain it very well in the text. Mimic cant change her appearance, she has the power to go unnoticed and blend in with groups of people so people don't notice. She can't imitate specific people or shape shift.

Yeah, I got that, but she's still a stealth infiltrator type. More psychic I suppose.

She's not meant to be like a knock off of Mystique, I dunno what to tell you really. That wasn't what I was thinking of when I made it, and I can't really see much similarity, other than having abilities that relate to giving people incorrect perceptions. You can't please all the people all the time I guess.

I'm not bothered, its an archetype, and a valuable one. I just hope she doesn't have a similar arc.

Seriously, shes nothing like Mystique. Like not at all. If you are getting that I am explaining it really badly.

If Mimic is Mystique, then Hazard is Diry Harry, because they both like guns. Thats the level of similarity between the two characters.

Oh, hi Mystique from X-Men. That comes off as a bit rude. Me and Hark came up with the concept of Mimic years ago. This was back when Harkovast was in it's infancy and we were wanting to make sure the animals in Weird Britannia didn't overlap with those in Harkovast, which seems silly now. The original idea (and this was a brief outline, because the character never got used) was that Harkovast didn't have Chameleons, a chameleon would be cool! And then, how about instead of blending in physically to his surroundings his camouflage was some kind of psychic thing where he blended in socially? As a PC, that is a broken as fuck power. ALWAYS nyx powers like this as a GM, no good will come of it! So, we made some character 'flaws', he wasn't fully aware of his powers, seeming oblivious to how they work. He wouldn't really speak as he doesn't interact like a real person (meaning Mimic would be a 'Feral' in the current version, or as Steel would call them, a "binlicker"). Because he isn't fully aware of whats going on then he doesn't have an agenda like the heroes or CLAW etc, so would be more of an Ally than a member of the team. All I've seen of the all new updated and art-ified Mimic is that cutscene. She's had her gender changed, which is a good fit. Hark put her in a comedy setting, which is a great way to highlight the powers as it does lend itself to people looking a bit stupid when she blends in. Other than that, who knows?! I know she isn't a PC, again a good call cos the power is hard to do in a satisfying way and they are weird as fuck. Mimic is putting the weird in Weird Britannia! So from this point of view, seeing Mimic as similar to Mystique, the shapeshifting sexualized super agent henchmen of Magneto seems odd.

You know I got the names wrong on the pictures and until just now, Trace has been called Flare under her picture. I'm a fucking idiot.
