Wait. Jindal was the one who was going on about this?
And he is running for the Republican nomination?

The whole "no go" thing has catapulted Jindal into the public spotlight over the last few days and he's running with it like a kid with scissors.
He just moved from "maybe" to "probably" column.

So by saying demonstrable lies for which he has been called out, he has become MORE likely to try to run for president? My mind has been blown once again.

We're talking about Bobby Jindal though, why are you surprised?

I can lie really badly and really obviously too! Make me president! I'm ready! I can do it!

Worked for Obama.

I think a more apt comparison would be Donald Trump and the birthers thing.

Didn't get him the nomination, much less the presidency.

And if Jindal keeps this up, it won't get him it either.
Though part of the reason Trump failed so miserably is that Obama played him like a cheap flute. He let the birthers do damage to the Republicans by making them appear crazy and paranoid, then he revealed his birth certificate after the damage had built up.
But the rest of it was rather similar. Trump focused on a single divisive issue that catapulted him into the limelight, an issue that would perhaps be important if there were any truth to the claims, but there was clearly not. Trump then stuck to the issue for an unreasonably long time, making himself look even more arrogant and unable to admit to mistakes. Jindal is on his way to doing that same thing, and he really shouldn't.

And if Jindal keeps this up, it won't get him it either. Don't worry. It'll be Jeb Bush. Trump lost because he's a fucking joke, nobody needed to help him lose.

The sad thing is, that Jeb Bush is actually somewhat reasonable. But that name is going to be a major strike against him if he does run.
Trump didn't need help losing, true, but Obama exploited him to make the Republicans look bad.

Don't get me wrong, politicians lie all the time, I expect them to lie. But this is like conspiracy theory stuff. I mean its worse than that.
Its demonstrably false.
A politician saying "I care about poor people" is the kind of lie I expect. We kinda know its a lie, but its not something demonstrable or clear cut.
"There are no go areas ruled by sharia law in europe" is just whacko nonsense.
He might as well say "I have a unicorn under my bed" or "The Belgians are planning to launch an invasion of New Jersey using giant robot otters."
I honestly have enough faith in Americans to believe Jindal will not do his chances any favours with such clearly race baiting nonsense.

Okay here is an example of a normal political lie.
Obama said American eighth graders have fallen to ninth place in math. This was misleading. They WERE at ninth place, but this was actually an improvement, as previously in 1995 they had been at 28th place. That's what political lies look like. Its based on truth, but he's massaging and misrepresenting the figures to put forward his own narrative (in this case that this statistic is getting worse, rather than better.) It's stuff that's hard to check, kinda subtle and technical. Its bullshitting, but its done in a more back handed way.
They don't normally just get up and declare their belief in physical things that can be shown to not exist in reality. Politicians misrepresent the figures to suit themselves. Jindal claims we need to bomb Latvaria before Dr Doom deploys his Doom Bots against the free world!

That's the ting that gets me about this situation; Jindal can be proven wrong, quite easily in fact, but he's staunchly refusing to retract his statement as if he's correct.

Remember in the Harkovast rpg, when there was a Golta guy that was in the Preservation League that acted as a mouth piece for it, so they could use him as a cover to deny they were racist, by rallying around him and as he said anti-golta racist talking points?
I don't know why I mentioned that, it just suddenly popped into my head. Anyway, lets see what's happening in the real world.
