Busterdrag made an interesting comment on the Harkovast page "Excuse"-
"Does the West have ANY henchmen that aren't buttfucking evil?
I mean, not that I am critisizing, but so far the only agents of the west we saw were demons, traitorous murders and terrorists, usurpers, false prophets and so on and on. We have seen that the good guys are not all that good either, since the Eldex are pretty machevellian, end justifies the means and all, and many of the heroes have some really bad habits, like outright racism or being morally ambigious. So, wouldn't it be kind of fitting to have an agent of the west that is maybe not all that evil? Like, a misguided hero, someone that serves the West because he has seen so much suffering in Vellastrom caused by the races differences in culture and biology, and maybe he thinks the only way to end such suffering at all is to eradicate that difference. Seems the West has that figured out."
He makes an interesting point.
The thing is, The West is very much in the wrong (they want to conquer, destroy and dominate everyone else in Harkovast!) so anyone on there side is on the wrong side. In joining with them you will inevitably have to do evil stuff or support other people who are doing evil.
Now this doesn't mean everyone on their side is totally evil, or evil in the same way.
The Fighter is a cruel bully who just uses her powers to hurt others for her entertainment, but The Speaker fully believes he is doing the work of God and is thus completely justified in everything he does.
Other members of the 14 evils know they are doing bad things and don't want to do them, but feel they don't have a choice or that since the West will inevitably win, its better if they help it happen quickly to reduce the amount of suffering that will occur.
Does that make them better or worse? Its an interesting question.
The Mariner legitimately tried to unite the Eslum and bring about an enlightened age of peace and reason to his people...but the other Eslum consider his time in power "the reign of suffering" and he is so hated that talking about him in polite company is considered distasteful.
What I will say if you work for the West you are going to end up having to do evil, so its not really possible to be in that faction without becoming morally compromised.
