There was some controversy apparently, but its a more or less historical setting. Bohemia.
Combat is good at some points but eventually you just become a god, according to what I've heard.

The controversy was really wierd. It was a big Striesland effect thing where the guy who made it was pro gamer gate and was quite upfront that he made all the characters white cause it was set in medieval Europe where historically almost everybody would be white and wasn't going to change that. So a load of gaming media types gave the game a low score expressly because the felt it had a political message they didn't like. The game itself didn't really have a political message, the game isn't political at all, its knights bonking each other in medieval europe. It was more that the guy making it wasn't bending the knee to what they wanted, give an apology etc. They didn't like him so didn't like his game by extension. Some even flat out refused to review it.the guy might have been a douche, but they put peoples backs up by bringing outside things into reviews about the game, that many felt should have been just about the game and not the politics of the guy that made it. Naturally this caused tons of people to hear about the game that was so "controversial" and caused it to sell crazy numbers of copies. I mean, its so shocking games journalists don't want you to see it! It's too controversial to even review! Maybe we should change it to the Trump effect...where your opponents in the media end up accidentally running a huge promotional campaign for you while trying to bring you down. We probably wouldn't be talking about this game here if they hadn't done a big campaign against it. How weird is that?
They should have just reviewed it, given it a middling score with little or no fan fare and moved along, instead of building the gmae its own personal hype train.
The game looks alright. I think its a bit buggy, its probably a good laugh though. Its pretty big and ambitious for something made by a small studio (at least as I understand it.) It's meant to be trying for lots of authenticity, so it might be fun to get into the setting.
Meanwhile...I've been playing ARMELLO!
A loyal Harko fan bought it for me and its a lot of fun. It's like a board game but you only get very limited numbers of moves and all kinds of sneaky shit an fuck you over from the other players and the cruel random number generator. I think its on sale at the minute, so it's well worth a go. Mind you, the setting might put you off. You guys hate fantasy settings with talking animals, don't you?

Oh God, furries?! Those people need professional help!
Reminds me of this comic I heard about with magic pandas, fabulous horse warriors, and whatever the fuck a "storm wolf" is supposed to be!

Time commanders was so cool. Total War games are a franchise close to my heart. We had a little bit of a fall out during the launch of Rome 2...but now we are back on track with awesome warhammer games.

Rome 2 is looking much better now. I never gave a damn about the family tree... though they are adding that in next update. I'm liking the idea of Rise of the Republic DLC and might get it.
I kinda wanna play the Etruscans.
Consider that the only Rome 2 campaign I ever legitimately be at was Hannibal at the Gates and this makes a lot of sense. I like smaller maps with more focus on them.

StyxD , I read that a while ago, I think I shared it with Canuovea too. Makes sense to me, there's plenty of positive portrayals of horse royalty in various media, like Luna, Celestia, Cita, and Butt Stallion. In this case... maybe the perseverance of the horses in their quest to destroy the human race? I mean, dedication to a task and hard work are virtues, right?

Yeah Rome 2 is meant to be much improved now. A smaller, more contained map would probably also be a plus. the main campaign used to go on FOREVER.
That horse campaign is awesome. Especially all the terrible horse puns. Having horses entirely replace the human race is a lot of hard work!

You know, if you think about it, there's a (largely accidental*) satire element to all this. You can make a horse your heir, a lord or a bishop… but it had better be a male horse. There have to be some limits to the madness! *) From what can be inferred here, the game treats horses exactly like humans with a certain ethnicity. The horse you get from the event simply gets a trait that makes it infertile, but since you can spawn other characters with the same ethnicity completely legally in the game with a simple mechanic… it's hard not to think that a dynasty of horses is exactly what the developers intended! I mean, one of the addons to the game is even called "Horse Lords".

I'd make intentionally put that in a game, but I'm just like that. Probably why I shouldn't design games. I'd have a lightning bolt destroy the player every time they killed a horse in Skyrim.
Though I'll admit, when I played Red Dead Redemption I think accidentally shot my horse in the back of the head with a shotgun while riding it. Karma immediately sent a pack of wolves to kill me.

In the game it starts out that women can't inherit anything, and you have to pass a law to let women have equal rights. This helps with making inheriting and spreading your culture easier, but those kind of law changes cause disruption in the kingdom.
I am pretty sure I won this game but just haven't got that into it. It seemed fun but quite complex.
So he had to get a particular advance in order to get the pony princess rulers her wanted.
I think its great that something they put in as a joke can be so horribly abused.
