My buddy was really young (like 2 or so) his old man had a truck that didn't have any sort of safety mechanisms on the shifter, apparently he reached over and yanked it into reverse on the highway one time and transmission basically ejected itself.

My old Ramcharger had a really worn out shifter and once I bumped it into reverse while driving forward. It made a horrible noise but the gear couldn't engage. I managed to rip it back out of reverse before it did. Somehow it didn't damage anything. Or at least not enough that it wouldn't function anymore.

Nope, W200, I've seen a handful of king cabs around, like two or three in Nova Scotia, and some while looking at used listings in the US. They're not common though, that's for sure, I bet the biggest buyers of them would've been local governments in the US, the federal government, and the military, this one's got USAF markings on the doors.

I used to be able to stick things like this in my grandmother's garage, but she died last year. If I had a spare patch a dirt I'd probably buy it, but as it stands I wouldn't have anywhere to put it, I don't even have any friends who have somewhere to park a big ass truck (and would let me).

I might give that place a call on Monday and see what they want for that Dodge, I was having another look at it earlier this evening (and I might have a third look with my old man later this evening).
It needs some obvious work done on the body, the back corner of the box is rotted right through along with that part of the quarter panel, and the floor pan in front of the passenger seat is rotted through as well, but the frame looks good. I don't know how much work the brakes need, but if I buy it I'd consider installing disk brakes anyway. No idea what it looks like under the hood, ideally it runs and drives, that'd give me something to start with, and I'd be able to use it for some shit in the meantime (hauling gravel and wood with a Jeep can be done, but it's difficult).
It took me a while to figure out where the fuck the gas tank was, I crawled underneath to look at the various drive shafts (there's 3) and didn't see it, I couldn't see the bottom of the filler neck either, it turns out it's inside the cab, behind the rear seat. That seems a little dangerous, I'd want to stick that under the bed, there's a space for the spare tire that'd fit a big-ass tank. One nice thing I discovered about this truck is that unless I'm working on the wheels or suspension or trying to drop the transmission, I probably wouldn't need a jack, it's got more clearance than my Jeep, more than enough for me to slid underneath and work overhead with plenty of room to spare.
Really hoping they don't want too much for it, as far as I can tell (fingers crossed), if I get the brakes working, if I fix the bodywork, if I replace the cracked windshield and throw some wipers on it, and patch any exhaust leaks, it should pass a safety inspection. The big thing is if it works or can be made to work in short order, and if I can get it cheap.

Putting the fuel tank under the seat was actually pretty common in those days. If it was a standard cab the tank would be under the driver's seat.

It didn't work out, they were asking a bit more than I'd like to spend, and it needed more work than I'm willing and able to put into it right now.
I'm going to keep an eye on Craigslist and some other sites, I know what I'm looking for now, those mid-1960s Power Wagons are badass.
Time to focus on that carbine I guess, I got a Colt upper to go with the Colt lower.

Over the summer I saw an ad on Facebook for a set 5 of 255/70r17 Mud Terrain KM tires with rims, exactly the same rims and tires that came with my Jeep, buddy wanted 1200 for them, which was a steal, even more of a steal since they were completely unused.
Last weekend I got something jammed in one of my tires, they've got 3 years of wear on them and the spare is like new, so I figured I'd put the new tires on until I got it repaired.
Turns out the ad was wrong, they're not 255s, they're 285s, I was so pleased with what a fucking deal I got that I didn't look too hard at the writing on the tires. I still got a wicked deal on them, I can use them, but if I cut the wheel a bit too much they rub on the frame. I'll have to be careful with them until I can repair that other tire, and I'll probably be going to winters soon anyway, but when the original tires are getting too worn to use I'm gonna have to look at spacers.

Last week my brother in law picked up a 1965 Mustang for 200 bucks.
I have no idea who's dick he sucked to get that.
Sure, it needs a lot of work, but it's worth more than 200 in scrap value. It's even got the complete 289 V8. Apparently it even runs, really poorly but still.

Can't say about the frame, but there are a few rust holes in two of the quarter panels. No visible signs of an accident so everything is straight. All the trim is present.
I've only seen pictures of it so far.

The nice thing is they made so many of them, it shouldn't be difficult getting original and new production parts and body panels.
