It IS kinda a "fuck you" to the Eslum religion in its own way, though I doubt they see it that way. Well, for the most part. Felzio having a conniption over them is a funny concept too.

Hezgard do what they do, whether or not Eslum like it is none of their concern.

I like the ideas for their magics. Can we also make it so that stone magic makes it so that their mercenaries can even maintain standing position even after death (though they won't swing their weapon anymore, of course), until the battle is over or the formation is broken? Or would it be too overpowered?

I like that idea. It would be a dignity thing. There could be stories of the enemy breaking and fleeing even though they'd actually nearly won because they thought the Hezgard were still fighting despite having taken massive losses.

No thats not over powered, that would be cool. Then then hey are stood in ranks, a few of them are already dead from arrows or getting stabbed but just stay standing until the rest of them march off. That's not over powered. It only works when they are fighting in formation anyway.

The first thing that springs to mind is "dragon's teeth"; The Hezgard turn into anti-tank obstacles when they die

Fighting to the death is for quitters. Hezgard fight way longer than that!
I still need a name for the great sword armed elite Hezgard warriors.

Landsknechte is good, that is easier to say. I might simplify the spelling for us dumb english speaking primitives.
Landsnech maybe?
It doesn't matter if they aren't swiss specifically. The races of harkovast are more inspired by than exact recreations of real word cultures. The Hezgard represent that whole period of mercenary armies in europe. Now the swiss are one of the more famous examples of that, but its cool to shout out to others.
Kind of like the Onrapa are a mix of scottish, irish and welsh influences.
