Well he wouldn't do it with a flintlock pistol either!
I assumed this was a modern version of the race for this to make any sense...wait...no it still doesn't make any sense.
And James Bond was not from colonial America! Some how James Bond and George Washington and a badger are over lapping in this conversation.

George Washington. I understand the badger part; in a lot of photos I've seen the general was wearing a tux.

Okay, as long as that's been cleared up.

Ivos are quite rule bound and very much about control and order... even if their barbarity gets the better of them sometimes. They like discipline and efficiency. At least in terms of the military.

Institutionalized barbarism, it's pretty much part of regular Ivos life.

Well... same with anywhere that allows slaves, and even some places that don't. It is the bloodsport that sets the Ivos apart in that regard. Though I imagine that many Ivos find it distasteful and problematic. Certainly many Romans did. Not only extravagant, but it was observed by them to make one intemperate. I fancy that Ivos who are truly in favour of stoicism and self control would not care for the arena. Of course, they're almost certain to be in the minority.

All that militancy and desire for conquest wouldn't go over well with the Chang. The Ivos would probably seem like violent, hedonistic barbarians to the Chang, who would probably little distinction between the (from their point of view) crude and violent society of the Ivos and that of the Junlocks and Onrapa.

I could see that too. But both share a root desire for order.

They are only very superficially similar in that one respect. Ivos are more about conquest and expanding their empire than order for its own sake. Order is a means to make the army fight well and the Empire run efficiently, its isn't the end goal. The idea of wanting to conquer barbarians and rule over them is totally alien and bizarre to the Chang, who would rather keep as much distance between them and the savages on other continents as possible.

Which is probably good for everyone else.

Whether I want to play as something or not depends as much on the sort of special abilities they have as it does what they are. Chang don't appear to have anything I'd particularly want characters I play as to have, therefore I don't have any interest in playing as one.

On the other hand, the Ivos would probably see the Chang as a weak and overly civilised people. The Ivos feature too much peace and comfort will make them soft and cause them to lose the warrior edge that made them great. They would probably see the Chang as evidence of where this danger leads.

Also I should point out the Chang can do super magic enhanced kung-fu. (Frankly, wouldn't you be disappointed if they couldn't?)

Considering what Lemurs are like in real life, it would be odd if they didn't have something like that.
