I still think they should have just made one movie and called it a day.

I...Kinda can't help but wonder if what happened with the Matrix is sorta like what happened with Final Fantasy- They made a product that was simply AMAZING, not just amazing but AMAZING! the sort of thing that changes the course of development as a result if it's coming into being, a flash in the pan that an entire school of cooking thought hails from... Problem is, they then made the mistake of trying to do more with it then it was meant to do. Some things have a limited lifespan. 'The Adventures of Sir Muir' is limited to the lifespan of Sir Muir. Once you have a 'The Death of Sir Muir' episode...That's it. Harkovast itself though...That's different. Even if the King of the West or the Eldex were to fall...Okay maybe just if the King of the West fell, one could still tell stories in the setting of Harkovast, it'd just be things akin to 'Ivos vs. Junlock' Wars or something like that... I feel like the first movie was simple and precise with it's message and style. It wasn't about the Machines versus Man dealie, that was just the setting for the idea. The way people could turn into Agents at a moment's notice, or for that matter, the generally stealthy approach the 'good guys' had to getting stuff done. It was Rebels versus The Man, The System. Simmilarly, the style and message of Harkovast's story would DRAMATICALLY change the moment you remove the KITW. Instead of Diversity versus Singularity, you'd have...Well, a story more about racism and tolerance, or something like that I think?

I have to say, though, I still think the Machines were the good guys.

I agree, Can (the humans were just racist towards the machines before screwing everything up due to idiocy if I remember correctly).

The Animatrix makes it clear, but even in the original, Neo and Co. clearly don't give a damn about the lives of the other humans. They're basically terrorists. Smith is a dick though.

Almost all of the people they killed in the first film were police officers and security guards, and it's established that those were real people hooked up to the matrix. It's not like they knew about the Matrix or anything, as far as they knew they were working for the government.
Hell, I think Smith only possessed one of the officers near the end, the rest were just guys responding to two people dressed like they're going to a fetish club gunning down the security guards in the building's lobby.

Yeah. Exactly.

The first filmly was cool because it made it ambigious. Yeah, holding humanity hostage in the matrix and basically making our society never progress and be totally under their control was bad, but we didn't know who started the war and humans had scorched the sky to try to wipe the machines out etc.
But then animatrix makes it clear "Machines wanted peace, but humans were dicks over and over again." Oh...so thats that settled then.
And apparantly humans greatest achievement, the creation of AI, which Morpheus described as all humans uniting to celebrate their greatest achievement...was used for manual labour and personal butlers...how inspirational.
Animatrix was a lot better than the sequal (ie not 100% bullshit) but it still fucks things up and spoils the settings.
LEAVE THE FUCKING ORIGINAL FILM ALONE!

Thinking about it now, I'm not all that impressed with the original film either.

I was more a generic fantasy fan rather than a scifi fan.

Agent Smith was the character I most identified with (at least in the first film; he seemed to lose a lot of personality in the second one).

So I finally got to play Shadowrun at Origins 2016 in Ohio. It was pretty dang fun. I found myself really liking the general feel of the setting (I don't see much urban fantasy in general, so that's probably why I liked it).
Progression and leveling is still pretty confusing to me (I bought the core 5e book), especially for adepts or people who want to play melee focused characters. But I had fun regardless.
Downside is that I probably won't be able to find people to play with. I may have to give roll20 another shot.

5th Ed is not well loved by Tiberia, who sometimes shows up here. However, she rather enjoys 4th ed. I've played a bit and it is kind of fun. But complex, so darn complex. I wonder if 5th ed has a Chummer set up yet? Makes all of that much easier. www.chummergen.com/A quick look over suggests that it was, well, looking like Chummer for 5th ed is in progress.

Someone recommended Chummer to me when I was building my character after Origins. I didn't do it, though it did take me about two days to make a character.
And I was just making a melee adept. I spent a lot more nuyen than expected.
