Rey ends up doing eveyrthing. She bonds with Solo and then has the relationship with Luke, while Finn ends up with nothing to do...when he is the far more interesting character in theory.
Yeah saying she doesnt shy away from darkness when she has literally never done anything morally wrong in any of the films felt fake. She turned down more food than she had ever seen to save a droid she just met. She is basically the nicest person ever. If she doesn't shy away from the dark side I would assume it is because it can't tempt her or corrupt her. Its water off a ducks back for her.
The Last Jedi does quite a lot of just declaring things to be the case with no set up. Like with the space battle, the characters just sort of shout out the rules and then that's how it works now. None of Luke's weird theories about ending the Jedi make much sense, nor do his reasons for not training Rey (What's the down side to training her? the bad guys are taking over the universe. Even if she goes evil and joins them that wouldn't really make things any worse.) Things are just sorted of declared and we have to go with it, even if it doesn't fit with anything we've seen before.

Hmm yeah basically all the established characters love her and bond with her in favour of anyone else, including each other.
Ma-Rey Sue.
Fin has a more interesting plot and a better actor. If you've seen the excellent low budget sci fi Attack the Block, the guy has ridiculous amounts of charisma. I was excited when i first heard he was in star wars but now hes been reduced to comic relief.

Remember the horribly embarassing acitivst droid in Solo? Well I've got an article for you that argues that the Droid was awesome but the movie didn't treat her well enough. Apparently what was wrong with Solo was that they didn't treat this over sexed toaster well enough.I've seen other feminist types saying they hate this droid because they think its an offensive parody mocking their beliefs...but apparently she represented their ideas great but the movies didn't treat her well enough now. Perhaps she should have been like Poochy and have all the characters talk about her when she isn't around?

If Jar Jar had awkwardly pushed political points...there would be articles now saying he wasn't in the second and third films enough.

They're acting like this is some kind of achievement. Also completely false as there were female droids before. As far as we know C3PO is transgender (all other protocol droids seem to speak in a female voice) so Lucas was way ahead of the curve.
I love how they equate her being plugged into the Medellin Falcon with being chained to a stove.

I've heard lots of stories of people in the cinema bursting out laughing when she gets shot. Especially when Lando tries to pick her up when shes wounded and she comes in half.
That does sounds pretty funny....

I've heard a lot of people calling the one in Solo the Millennial Falcon.

I'm good with saying it's a different ship.

By the way, a curious occurrence. Lately I've been seeing posters for events related to the original Star Wars. First, a concert with music from the OT, now a screening of New Hope with live music (what is it with Disney and music, man?).
I don't know how big crowds these events bring in, but it shows that profiting from Star Wars doesn't equal just making new Star Wars.

That is true, there is a lot of other vlauable shit that comes with the star wars name.
But with these big corporations they have budgeted for certain levels of profit. I heard it described as "they dont spend $200 million to make $1 million". When they lay down 4 billion on top of the costs of making movies, the profit margin needs to be MASSIVE to justify that. The initial movies implied that would pay off relatively quickly. Now it feels less certain. They've planned around making certain levels of cash, so if it falls below those levels, even if its not an actual loss, it won't be viewed as a win within the organisation. The new cartoon show they are doing trailers for is getting a negative response and toys aren't selling as expected, so there are a few warning signs here. I'm not saying its dead or anything, but they need some course correction.
Fun fact- My brother liked Last Jedi and liked Solo. He thought the activist droid was a great character in Solo and was shocked when I told him that people hate her. He also said that she wasn't really Lando's girl friend, she was just crazy and claimed that (and interpretation Ive heard from no one else.) Mind you, he also though Star Trek Discovery was okay.

My family and I finally saw TLJ a little earlier. We all agreed that it was bad; my main issues were that it felt really slow and it just felt really boring (the plot holes which have been mentioned elsewhere also made the whole thing feel contrived). The only things I liked were the Vulptexes (they were adorable) and the scenary on the island Luke was moping on. Regarding Poe, I'd say demoting him was justified considering his idiocy earlier suggesting he was better off just being an ace pilot rather than someone who makes decisions during battles (not that Admiral Pinkhair's refusal to tell everyone what her plan was seemed any better, especially considering how I'm not sure how the transport ships wouldn't have been seen by the First Order as they fled). I'm not really sure where the idea that it's somehow progressive came from either due to it seemingly lacking any sort of political point which the audience was expected to agree with (it seemed as though we were supposed to disagree with the point about how the Galaxy should move on from having the Jedi).

Yeah it is odd that its become a political cause. The movie really doesn't have anything to say (at least not a consistant message.) Everything is a culture war these days though!

It seems that way. Blaming poor reviews on Russian trolls and bots seems expecially ridiculous though.
