I think it's because of the Left casting Rey as the Great Female Hero of Our Time. I would say Fin as well, but based on the short end of the stick he got in TLJ, I guess they don't care about him anymore.
All was roses when everyone loved TFA and ideological detractors (and there were many of those on the Right then as well) were soundly ignored. Rey was going to inspire generations (girls first and foremost) just as Luke did, thus proving once and for all that female protagonists can be as big as male protagonists.
And then fandom was split on TLJ. I guess the rampancy of blaming it on bigots and trolls is just vehemently trying to deny the possibility that Rey might fail in her imagined role simply because the movies are not going to be as loved as the OT. It's better to believe that everything is still great and all the detractors are ideologically motivated.
Because I guess it would be much worse if people actually didn't like the movie.
And none of it actually has to do with contents of the two movies.

Another friend mentioned that some critics apparently complained about there being a lot of women in leadership positions, which hardly seems like a valid complaint compared to everything else.

Oh dear. That's really embarrassing. I love how obvious that is. The people complaining have lots to say, the 5 star crowd seems to just post their ratings and run and none of them have pictures. I guess armies of people love the show but not enough to actually articulate it in words.

Guys, don't go crazy, I implore you.
There is zero evidence presented in the video that these 5 star reviews are fake. In fact, it's a pitch-perfect example of how conspiracy theories develop. The guy sees something that he finds weird (many 5 star reviews with no text) and immediately creates an explanation that best validates his already existing feelings, without considering any other possibilities.
You know, it actually made me thing about the optics with which we're viewing movements like anti-vaxxers and flat-earthers, which is good for me I guess.
There's no good motive for Lucasfilm to hire an army of 5 star bots. They're afraid of bad opinions on freaking Rottentomatoes? The target audience of a children's show don't usually go to meticulously comparing scores on Rottentomatoes. And if SW: Reistance was bombed with 1 star reviews, well then they just get to make an article like "Angry entitled adult Star Wars fans sabotage review store of a children's cartoon out of still-ongoing resentment about The Last Jedi".

No it wont be lucas film doing that. Anyone can spam reviews if they want to.
Though I will go out on a limb and say the media wont report a problem of people spamming positive reviews for a star wars show.

Well, probably not.
I guess liking a show is considered more normal than devoting time and energy to lambast a show you don't like. And media would probably not care either way if it wasn't for the current politicization of Star Wars.

Also, I hate you guys, because after watching this video YouTube recommends me Jordan Peterson interviews alongside videos that 100% prove the existence of Atlantis.
Which, given the subject matter, I guess I should have expected.

That is not my fault.
How can I be blamed if the world is really flat and aliens built the pyramids?

There must be a connection here...So I will assume Jordan Peterson sank Atlantis in order to divide the star wars fan base, under orders from Russian bots. PROVE ME WRONG!

So I've seen the Solo movie recently and you know what… it doesn't deserve all the hate that it's getting.
I really enjoyed it. I mean, there is lot to dislike about this film, but on the overall it was a positive experience.
Pros:
- While the story could be better executed, I found it quite interesting in concept. Han starts as a pretty optimistic and morally good fellow, but becomes completely cynical by the time everyone buy Chewbacca betrays him. I think it fits quite well with how he starts in New Hope and flips back to being a good guy by the time the movie ends, and never really leaves. People say the story isn't necessary, but neither was Rouge One, really. I think it kind of needs to be accepted when going in for those side movies.
- Acting seemed quite good all across the board… when the scenes weren't being terrible, anyway.
Cons:
- Han getting the Solo surname was unnecessary and also kinda stupid.
- The whole "Han as imperial trooper" segment was easily the worst part of the movie. It looked completely out of place, as if it was ripped straight from WH40K. Han meeting up with Beckett and his team was one contrivance after another. Chewbacca was randomly stuck in a pit, and eating people…
- L3 was terrible. She was actually worse than I expected, even after all I've heard about her. It felt as if she was written as a joke character, and the humour was really juvenile, up until she was shot and suddenly the narration swiveled 180 degrees and it was a tragic death we were supposed to mourn. In the OT, when similarly annoying C3-PO was dismembered, it was just another joke and he was put together shortly after. I have no idea what they were trying to do with L3… and neither did they.
- The Tumblr Death Squad was good in concept (Rebellion, or at least parts of it, having its roots in small local resistance forces), but rather obnoxious in execution. It's not that it's even "forced diversity", it's that since their first appearance they're hyped up for no apparent reason (getting their own leitmotif) and their reveal is presented as if the creators wanted a pat on the back for putting some minority people in minor roles in stereotypically tribal outfits in a one-dimensional faction… yeah, there are some problems with that. But all and all, I think they're led by seemingly a teenager solely so that young Han can get to call her "kid". Because calling people "kid" is what Han Solo does.
- Darth Maul's cameo was so damn funny. I laughed so bad when he grabbed his lightsaber only to pose with it for no reason. It was pathetic. I have no idea what the point of it was.
