Makes sense. I often use Wizards but I tend to prefer buffing, utility and battlefield control spells to blasting (I do have one character whose an Evocation specialist but she was initially only intended to be a minor NPC before being promoted to being my 2nd DMPC because the only player in the campaign liked her).

Hey Tempt, how do you deal with handing out spells to wizards since they have to find their spells? Do you use a random table?

In 5th Edition? I've not DMed that so this issue hasn't come up. I'd probably just have them gain 1 spell when they level up while needing to find scrolls for the rest.

Well how to you deal with scrolls? Is it a random spell or something else?

Random seems more logical but that's irritating if players want specific spells. Are prices for scrolls listed anywhere so they can be bought from magic shops?

Not sure. I don't have the DMG anymore (DM has it and I returned it to her).
Honestly we might just mug npc wizards for their spells.

Why not buy/swap spells with them?

Why not buy/swap spells with them? Because we're a bunch of sociopaths who solve most of our problems with violence. Just kidding. We'll probably do that also.

I know. Can you imagine the sociopaths? I'm glad my groups first response isn't murder.

It would probably end up resembling a Binder of Shame chapter.

It would probably end up resembling a Binder of Shame chapter. I don't know what that is.

Continuing the discussion on Charm spells here, I'd say that all I'm doing is looking at how the spell is written. Considering how there's no way within the rules (as far as I can tell) to remove the save bonus the target get in hostile situations, I'd argue that using it in combat in the first place is a bad idea and that you're better off using it in social situations as a way of getting info out of people (admittedly, diplomacy, if your bonus is high enough) is probably a better way of doing this). Dominate, on the other hand, would probably work for at least getting someone out the way or getting info out of them (assuming the spell makes them think you're an authority figure). Making them attack their actual friends would be risky due to allowing additional saves but it's still useful for that if you don't mind taking a chance (as Hark pointed out, if the target is already hostile, making them more hostile shouldn't really be an issue).

A friend of mine did point out the problems with using the charm spell, as he didn't want to make people pissy at him.
