Okay, you know how I said that final fight in Man of Steel put my girlfriend to sleep? Nearly did the same for me. Supes fights that big world terraforming thing... so boring. Too much CGI, I couldn't be bothered to be invested. And now that you mention it, Tech... reminded me of some of those Transformers movies.
Sure, some people like it, but I could care less.

At least DBZ had moments where both sides punch and kick each other. I'm actually getting the same feeling with high level D&D. At one point, the only challenging thing will be world ending stuff. I might miss simpler enemies like regular bandits.

maaaybe this is the wrong thread for it but what precisely IS the problem with CGI-based fighting and whatnot? Is it just a personal preference thing or are there more concrete reasons?

Maybe it will be better in the future, but so very often it lacks the... weight and physicality of an actual fight.
Take the last Hobbit movie. Swords pass through people like there is nothing there. You can tell that the actors are just swinging at mid air. It looks like a video game, as opposed to actual combat. To me, it looks fake. Especially when the actors obviously have no idea of what is going on around them. Again in the Hobbit, Dain is standing there shouting "Where's Thorin?!" He doesn't look overly bothered though. But then there is a huge troll two feet away from him, and he doesn't seem to be bothered enough to care. You just know that was all green screened.
It is better than it was, but most of the time it doesn't feel real. You know the uncanny valley? The idea that something looks human, but you can tell that it isn't really, and that is somehow more disturbing than something which obviously isn't human? I get the feeling that is sort of my reaction to CGI. It looks real... but... not really.
But that is just me.

I see... Honestly? I don't get that feeling, but between you and that sword trainer thing you have, and Renard&Wordweaver's gun talk, I suspect you're more familiar with the physical aspects of combat and thus are more sensitive to shenanigans in that department. Of course, it could also be argued I'm just less noticing of weirdness and fallacies in movies in general but...Nyeh. What might be interesting (altough highly experimental at best) might be a movie that challanges the viewer to see how much little things and nuances he can spot, instead of just going 'here's stuff blowing up! And other such simple-minded plots'...

Yeah, I'm willing to admit that I sometimes ruin CGI stuff for myself through my inability to suspend disbelief. It just happens.

I've long since stopped counting bullets in movies. "An 11 shot revolver? Meh, whatever." Actor added recoil still bothers me though, I guess it's better than a complete lack of recoil. CGI added muzzle flash is almost as dumb and CGI blood splatter.
If CGI is used right it can add a lot of great effects to a movie that we haven't seen before. That's nice, but what I don't like is they use it for EVERYTHING now and it causes a lot a lazy scene creation. "We can just CGI that in later." is a Hollywood staple nowadays. Even worse are afterthoughts, when they CGI in something that the actors had no clue was supposed to be there at the time of filming. Those stick out like sore thumbs.
Take a movie like Bladerunner. There's great attention to detail at the time of filming the scenes. Everything you want in the scene has to be present when the cameras are rolling. The smoke, the lighting, the way the air moves, what the people are doing in the background, etc. The actors can work in an environment that looks authentic, and it makes them just that much more believable. If you did the entire movie with a green screen your finished product may be more polished, but the actors don't really feel like they're there, cuz they never were.

I always like CGI when it's used a bit from a distance, I went back and watched Spiderman 2 and its CGI still holds up and actually looks far better then some of the stuff in movies today. I am a Huge Hobbit fan, I've read the book 5 or so 1 times since I was 9 and I fucking hate the movies, well the second and third mostly, I'll put the first one in its own corner because I actually really enjoyed it.

First Hobbit I liked until that last bit with Azog at the end. In fact, I loved it until then.

Agreed there with you Can. after that it seemed like it was trying to hard to be an action movie to be on the same scale as Lord of the Rings. the focus also seemed away from Bilbo and so much added and unneeded story shit that wasn't in the books was really out of place for me. I didn't mind changing out the goblins for the Orcs, I get wanting to connect The Hobbit with Lord of the Rings.

Now they're going to serve us up a movie with Batman in it where the two will presumably make amends after trading blows for a while and come to the conclusion that Lex Luthor is the real enemy because he wants Superman dead. Considering what happened in the first movie wanting Superman dead seems to be reasonable. This movie is going to be exactly what I expected it to be.

I'm a bit hopeful now after seeing that trailer, I like that they are making Batman hate superman for the same reason all the fans hated the movie, actually makes me wonder if they had something different planed and the backlash from the city distroying made them go back and change it.

They're probably going to bring in Doomsday in the end.
