The only problem is that if I want to watch that show I've got to get Disney Plus, and I'd much rather not.

Speaking of the Mandalorian, thought I'd leave this here because it's kinda neat;

So a bit of a counterpoint to the bitching, while acknowledging most of the movie's main issues.
I basically agree with him on his take on the other movies too. So maybe I'll enjoy this when I do watch it. I'm just offended by the lack of creativity.
But I guess that's the kind of thing JJ Abrahms is good at.
Though at this point, maybe it is basically just best to look at Star Wars as a TV show with 12ish episodes rather than anything else.

Force lightning is like peeing. Once you start the flow, it can be hard to stop. Even if its flying back in your own face...or so they tell me.

Millicent:I realize this...Force Lightning is not the same as the thunder magics we brorg-dao wield, but I still find that comparison offensive!

I don't think its possible to like all three of these new films unless you are basically just there for the light show.
The second one declares all the plot points of the first one to be silly and unimportant. The third one then ret cons everything the second one said.
If someone cared about any of the plot points or characters in any of the films, I don't see how its possible to enjoy all of these movies.
That only makes sense if they are enjoying it on a very superficial level. I mean there is nothing wrong with that, but it suggests you could swap out the film for fast and furious or jurrassic world and they would like it just as much.

Steve seemed to like it okay. He loved The Last Jedi, so felt this one was a bit disappointing, but it apparently does some things well.
I am... skeptical myself. But I will eventually watch it.

Disney are so woke and so progressive that the new star wars films features a GAY ROMANCE! Yeah you heard me right! Gay characters....well....extras....gay extras in the back ground. Then you can blink and miss apparently.
But still, that's representation right?
Except in Singapore. For that version disney edited out of the Singapore version in order to get a lower rating.
I mean Disney REALLY care about their woke politicals...but not as much as they love money, obviously. Then they gays can go right under the bus.
Remember back in the day when Coca-Cola made an advert about everyone aroudn the world holding hands and sang that "I'd like to teach the world to sing" song? South africa (under apartheid at the time) asked for a version with the black characters edited out. Coca-Cola refused.
That was 1971.
Disney are assholes.
Assholes who make shitty star wars films.

Wait, so you're saying that Finn and Poe aren't gay?

No, the movie goes out of its way to make it clear they aren't.
Poe meets a lady he has history with who wants to kill him but then decides she likes him because the story is moving too quickly for character developement. At the end of the film after the bad guys are done Poe comes on to her again and she tells him no, so he gives up. So Poe isn't gay, he's trying to get laid with chicks but just can't. He flies a space fighter for a job and he can't get women to shag him. What a fucking loser.
HOnestly, Poe and Finn discovering their love might have at least given their characters something to do.

People can be into both men and women, just throwing that out there.
Though that's probably a little too risky a step for studio executives to allow.

Very true, but I think Disney was trying to give Poe and Finn a strong case of the not gays.
Disney wants their representations and diverse characters....as long as they are minor enough to be removed when its useful.

Since we're on topic of posting Star Wars reviews on YouTube that challenged our views, I would like to share this: After watching this, I think I respect The Last Jedi more. At least conceptually. Isn't it super cool that I can have strong opinions, one way or another, about a movie that I have not even seen? The highlight points of the video were for me: If you think that the Jedi Order were really, really the fucking worst, like Canuovea seems to do, then that may make you like The Last Jedi more, since it's the only of the canon Star Wars movie that acknowledges this up front. I think it's not completely clear what the intention was with how the Jedi Order was portrayed, considering their ineffectiveness and questionable deeds in the prequels, and the fact that in Return of the Jedi Luke defies Yoda who's trying to foist that complete detachment ideology on him when he leaves before finishing his training. Rian Johnson broke all of JJ Abram's mystery boxes, and did it in a really shitty, stupid way, but a good point is raised that what even would have been a satisfying answer to any of them? JJ was clearly setting up a retread of the old trilogy. Maybe removing the Emperor analogue and Rey's mysterious parentage (shaping to be something exactly like Luke) was a noble endeavor? Of course, Rian failed to not retread the old trilogy, making this point mostly moot. Also, if you're a hardcore leftist, perhaps you have a distaste for how sectarian and bloodline-focused the Jedi seem to be, and enjoy the democratization of the Force that The Last Jedi teased in its ending, even if it was ultimately completely wasted because Rian was busy jerking off to how smart his ideas were instead of making a middle movie in a trilogy that actually sets up anything concrete. So anyway, my conclusions are thus: JJ Abrams is the main villain of the sequels, Rian Johnson is more like a Joker character dancing around him and shouting "you created me!". Canuovea, play KotOR 2 already, you'll be satisfied.

The Last Jedi did point out how shit the Jedi were in some ways, but not in all the ways they were shitty.
But yeah, I liked that part.
I've played KOTOR 2. It was... fine. I liked it when I played it.

The thing with subversion is, you have to replace the thing I expected with something even better.
In Ironman 3 (spoiling that film now. It was a shit anyway) the main bad guy they hyped in the trailer turns out to be fake and the REAL bad guy is some evil white businessman guy...like its ALWAYS fucking is.
This was lame and shit. Ben Kingsley giving derranged anti american speeches as a mad master mind was awesome. Evil generic business guy I can barely even remember? Not so much.
Yeah it was a twist, but the twist was that you don't get the cool thing you wanted, you get something worse.
Now, Spiderman Far From Home (more spoiling, and this film is okay, so see it first.) has a similar gimic. The bad guys are these elemental monsters that are big lumps of cgi that seem lame and boring. THey are just generic monsters, who cares? But then the twist is, Mysterio is the real bad guy and the monsters are fakes as part of his evil plans. This is a cool twist as the boring villains are fake and a new way cooler, more interesting villain takes their place.
Rian Johnson made the correct observation that JJ's mystery box set ups were shit (Young Jedi whose parents are going to be revealed, Emperor stand in etc. It was all pretty trite.) Unfortunately he was so pleased with himself for noticing and pointing it out he didn't seem to give any thought to what to replace them with.
Last Jedi declares all the cliff hangars unimportant nonsense, and doesn't replace them with better ones.
Yeah Snoke was a shit villain, but just killing him off leaves us with no main bad guy! (And don't say Kylo! Rey has knocked him on his ass twice by the end of the second film. He is totally none threatening and an idiot.) Rey's parents are no one important...but since her parental mystery was the only even slightly interesting thing about her bland as fuck character, we're left with nothing to care about regarding her.
