A new year, but sadly sexism continues to plague our society. Here's a link to an amusing sight tracking and mocking some of the horrendous and stupid stuff that comes out of the most dark and sexist corners of the internet (I'm thinking of 4/chan.) Here is an article about some of the hillarious memes Gamergate morons have come up with.Obviously, none of them are funny in the way they were originally intended. (I think my favourite is number 1, with the real woman of gaming.)

That's pretty sad, there was a good reason why I avoided reading about Gamergate (and not just because I think the "gate" suffix is bullshit).

I think we need to stop the corruption of adding gate to things.
Yes...GATEGATE HAS BEGUN!
You know I am genuinely relieved that everyone here sees gamergate as bullshit.
I had this horrifying feeling people on here were going to start telling me how its a noble crusade about ethics and feminist frequency is ruining all video games with her evil female wiles.
You would be surprised how many people I have stopped following on face book and have stopped watching on youtube for pulling that shit.
To me, supporting gamer gate would be like if you new a couple and really thought the man in the relationship was a jerk. He was just the worst, my useless boyfriend ever. So you start telling everyone this and getting together your friends for a meeting to discuss this. At the meeting, all your friends agree that he is just the worst. Because the boyfriend is black, people start dropping the n bomb and saying they want that boy to keep his hands off our white women. Some of the people at the meeting start wishing the boyfriend was dead, and start bringing up other black men who are going out with white women and how disgusting that is and how angry it makes them. They are all agreeing that those black men also need to be put in their place. Some of them start putting on bed sheets and pointy hats and measuring lengths of rope.
At this point, to try to keep the meeting going, saying that it wasn't started about racism and that's not what the meeting is about is meaningless...whether you like to pretend it or not your meeting has become a lynch mob. By continuing to take part, you are endorsing and supporting that mob.
Anyone who backs gamer gate now is supporting harassing women, that's all there is too it.

Pretty much agree with that.
I see no merit in the damn thing at all.
That article is, indeed, hilarious. They actually made up a woman to say "this is a real woman gamer!" Really?

Apparently so.

And this movement has a bunch of "rational" atheists in it who go on and on about things like strawmen when they are talking about religious arguments portraying atheists as they want to see them?
Guess women can't be strawmanned? Or do they only think that strawmanning is when you're saying something bad about that group of people? Because this is textbook.
Or, aren't they also quick to call out the "No True Scotsman" fallacy? Because, this seems similar. Yeah... um...
Failing pretty bad here.

Vivian James I believe is the name of their made up girl. Interesting bit of history there. Zoe Quinn, gamergate's original target, had a falling out with another feminist group called the Fine Young Capitalists (FYC) about a game project they were working on (I wont go into the irrelevant details of that.) To spite Zoe Quinn, 4 chan decided to contribute loads to the FYC project, which gave them the right to make a character to go in the game. They thought it would be clever to make the character a "typical girl gamer" rather than the sexist thing you would imagine they would make. So they made Vivian James (like Video Games...get it?) Shes a sullen gamer lady who hates people talking about politics and sexism and just wants to "game." Because a correct gaming woman shuts up and doesn't complain. The reason she wears a purple and green jumper is interesting. Purple and green are colours associated with 4chan due to a running joke they have about posting pictures of a green character from dragon ball Z character raping a purple character (stay with me here, this is all true.) Because that particular image (called the "daily dose") was banned on the board, people post purple and green things as a reference to it. So Vivian James includes a rape joke. Nice. Anyway, here is an amusing picture that kinda sums up with Vivian is all about...

I read about this somewhere, I just can't remember where.
Oh, and people almost immediately began making Vivian James porn.

Hahah lets all be clear that Canuovea is not saying the Vivian Porn Website is cool.

Well... of course...
But I have said in the past that, from a certain perspective, cartoon/drawn pornography is definitely less reprehensible than "live action" pornography. Live action. I can't believe I said that.
Seriously speaking, though... one good point against pornography is that a lot of porn can involve human trafficking and coercion and rape. How do you know everything is really consensual when you watch it?
This is the feminism section.

A fair point. Though drawing porn of the woman you are trying to use to support your cause as not being sexist might not be a brilliant tactic... Here is another fun image that demonstrates why trying to use gamer gate to combat corruption and make the world a better place might be kinda ineffectual at this point.
