Hulk get mad, hulk get strong, but no one ever say hulk get smart! Canuovea spoken like a TRUE 40K fan. Only newbs like space marines! The only good space marine...is one in a space ship because BFG is best. :V U wot m8? Now, I dont JUST like space marines, I'd say I like the Imperial Guard better, but really? Space Marines ARE one the most iconic things in that setting, and yes they have grown rather skubby with certain chapters getting more attention (Matt Ward anyone?), but eh, I wouldn't say they suck as a whole. I think if you approach them as a piece of the bigger picture that is the Imperium of Mankind, they're pretty interesting with the microcosm they bring, just as the other pieces with their microcosms do (Inquisition, Imperial Guard, Sororitas, Mechanicus and Officio Assassinorum). tl;dr Space Marines "suck", but Tau suck even harder, dirty filthy space communists.

I know almost nothing about Warhammer, except that the Death Korp ride pretty horses; Horses with claws. They probably eat people. Also the Death Korp look like badass too I suppose. I think that settles it.

Renard I always assumed you were in the Death Corps.
Busterdrag I was just trolling all the marine fans a bit there. I agree with your points, space marines are a key thing of 40K. They get a bit mary sue sometimes, but you cant have 40K without them. As I implied, I have a tone of them for Battlefleet Gothic, because Battlefleet Gothic is bad ass.

I've got gas masks and stahlhems and greatcoats and guns, so I've got the look covered at least

Space Marines are stupid.
"For the EMprah!"
But they are iconic.

Well, the Death Korps of Krieg are more WWI germany-ish, while the look of Armageddons armies is more akin to something from WWII, namely germany, again.

I'm getting the sense that there's a lot of places in the Imperium where people have to wear protective gear and live in shelters after completely wrecking their ecosystems one way or another. I think it's kind of a mix actually, some parts of their uniforms remind me of British and American kit from WW1, but their helmets are clearly based the standard issue German helmets from WW1 and WW2, and exact copies of Fallschirmjager helmets too. Of course everyone and their dog wore jackboots back in the day. But the Death Korp have the advantage in my opinion because they ride terror steeds. Maybe their weapons aren't the best, or their kit, or their leadership, or their tactics, I really don't know enough about the lore to say one way or the other, but they have terror steeds, and that's what matters to me.

The Imperium is about s grim dark and horrible as it could be. But the interesting part is that they are the good guys...and amazingly the badguys are EVEN worse. The Imperium oppresses, slaughters, exploits and sacrifices its citizens...but it doesn't totally exterminate them or turn them all into insane tentacle covered mutants. I guess the lesson is however bad things are, there is always someone who has it worse than you.

Don't exterminate their own citizens?
Exterminatus!

40K players are posers. There's only one game that has actual rules for doing exterminatus on a planet! BFG actually has multiple ways of destorying planets. Do you want the regular exterminatus, where you strip all life from the planet? Or maybe the Chaos Planet Killer that blows planets to rubble? Or maybe the multiple black stone fortress attack that causes the sun to go super nova?
Or you can play 40K and buy your commander a power sword or something (lame!)

The right two are a little dusty since I did them some time ago. But the elf on the left is freshly painted. Well, a few days ago anyway. The upload ended up smaller than I thought... Trying something else, will post both just in case.

Yeah, at this point I've basically given up and decided I'll paint and collect a bit despite having nobody to really play the game with.
Also, I'm really glad for Age of Sigmar all of the sudden. These Bleakswords are nice models and they look cool, but fucking hell are they all samey. They are in rather limited poses because they have to be able to fit in nice little boxes together. Give me some damn variety any day!
So I'm waiting to see about the AoS Elves.

I'm still amazed that you guys are able to paint the small details on some of these.

You gotta practice. The more you do it, the easier it gets. One reason space ships are the best (AND THEY ARE!) is that they are artificial, so there isn't so much of a correct way they have to look. Weve all seen humans, so we can see when they dont look right, but a space ship is a made up object so you have more wiggle room.
Canuovea you make a good point about AOS model posing. A big limiting factor for warhammer is that troops had to line up to make units. I kinda feel like warhammers scale of models doesn't fit with the scale of battle it was trying to represent.
A skirmish game gives a lot more potential for dynamic poses.
There ya go, i said something nice about AoS! See? I am harsh but I'm fair!
