CHAPTER 7- AGE OF PURITY
We see the ruined remains of London.
Buildings are crumbling and collapsed, burned out destroyed vehicles litter the roads. Numerous decaying corpses lay in the street, reduced to almost mummified skeletons after several years of being unmoved. Many of the bodies are strangely warped, misshaped and over sized, having been horribly mutated before death.
The sky is full of grey clouds that occasionally crackle with green energy.
We hear the voice of Grandmaster Stealth, speaking over a radio
“Hey everybody, this is Stealth calling out to all you party people. The humans are gone, but we’re still hanging on. Its cold out there, the heating doesn’t work, but hey no heating bills. *sniff* Ahh! So keep warm in your hearts.”
Frost’s van drives into view, revealing it is the radio in the van playing Stealth’s voice.
The van looks beaten up and battered from surviving in the apocalypse.
Driving the van is Frost (husky dog), with Ronin (snake) sat beside him.
In the back are Riptide (otter) and Hazard (collie dog).
All of them are now dressed in a ragged, post apocalyptic style, with various pieces of equipment and packs with them. Hazard is missing an eye.
The back of the van is full of supplies but mostly taken up with electronic equipment.
The van is driving very quickly, swerving around wreckages.
Ramshackle vehicles come into view giving chase, manned by insane, adaptive warriors dressed in ragged post apocalyptic gear. These are the Warriors of Destruction, a ferocious gang of armed cannibals. Despite being various kinds of animal, they all wear pig masks.
Warriors are sat in the vehicles and also clinging onto the sides, waving weapons.
The largest vehicle has Lord Destructor driving it. He is a relatively small dog adaptive, with an over sized helmet shooting out flames. Beside him is Pig Slave, a pig adaptive in a gimp suit.
(Fun fact, these two characters appeared previously as incompetent security guards, one of whom had a hilariously over the top name. I guess we all just need the right environment to thrive.)
Lord Destructor shouts into a mega phone, ranting that no one can oppose his power and that these usurpers will be DESTROYED!
The Warriors hurls Molotov cocktails and fire crossbows at the van, which is fortunately well armoured.
Out of the back of the van Hazard fires a Stery AUG assault rifle, shooting the front of an incoming vehicle, blasting the driver and causing the vehicle to swerve out of control and hitting a lamppost.
Riptide ducks to the side to avoid a thrown axe and then throws a grenade that rolls under a vehicle, blasting the underside of the vehicle and causing it to tumble over and crash into one of the others.
The other vehicles press on regardless, firing harpoons that punch into the van and slow it down with the weight of their own vehicles.
Riptide and Hazard are thrown around by the van swerving.
Riptide yells angrily at Frost about his driving.
Realising the danger, Ronin opens the passenger side door and pulls himself up on top of the van.
He then draws his katana and uses it to slice through the lines holding onto the harpoons.
Losing tension causes several vehicles to swerve, one of them losing control and flipping over.
The van drives into a lowered section of road, where it has partially collapsed and sunken. Ruined buildings have tipped over it making a crumbling tunnel.
Frost swerves his van into the tunnel, with the Warriors giving chase.
The tires screech as Frost hits the breaks to steer.
A large vehicle chasing the van surges forward as the van slows down, striking against the back of the van.
The Warriors hanging onto this vehicle are jolted and two of them are flung forward, landing inside the van, knocking over Riptide and Hazard. Ronin also loses his footing but manages to hand onto the top of the van.
This was not a planned move and surprised the Warriors as much as our heroes.
One of them gets slashes at Riptide with a blade as he gets up, but Riptide evades the attack.
She hits him repeatedly before kicking him out of the back of the vehicle, where he is impaled on the spiked rams on the front of the chasing vehicle, leaving his body handy in grisly fashion.
Meanwhile, Hazard batters the other man over the head with the butt of her rifle, rendering him unconscious.
Beams of light come through the ruined tunnel over head, providing dim illumination.
In the darkness of the rubble and ruins, things just as dangerous as the Warriors of Destruction begin to stir.
Horrific, many eyed mutant horrors, hiding from the sunlight glare out at the passing vehicles.
These things are the Dead Enders, or Enders. They are the mutated remains of Earth’s human population, who were all horribly transforms by a sudden increase in level of adaptive energy around the world 3 years ago.
These things have only minimal intelligence. They are hostile to everything that isn’t a Dead Ender, though often attack each other when nothing else is available.
Over time the majority of them have died off due to injury or their own mutations overwhelming their bodies. Since the creatures do not reproduce or have any kind of stable life style, even these horrific remainders of humanity will soon be extinct.
A Dead Ender leaps out and grabs onto the side of the van with it’s sharp claws.
Ronin uses his sword to slash off the creatures head.
Another Dead Ender leaps at the van but bounces off the side, causing the van to swerve.
More Dead Enders leap onto Warriors of Destruction vehicles, tearing at the occupants with their viscous claws, teeth and bladed tails.
The Warriors of Destruction break off the chase and withdraw.
Frost flicks a switch causing a high pitched whine to come from inside the van and the headlights to turn on high beams.
The lights and loud noise is painful to the Dead Enders, causing them to withdraw into their hiding places and the van to pass.
The noise is also painful to Hazard who bangs her fist angrily against the back of the vans driver section.
The van emerges from the tunnels, now deep in the heart of London.
The van pulls to a halt and our heroes climb out.
They are now amongst the ruins of Piccadilly Circus. Surprisingly a few of damaged screens are still playing, showing images of Purity.
Since the Apocalypse, Purity sends out transmissions, though they seem to be pre recorded as they often repeat.
Purity looked ragged and filthy and seems very tired.
“My perspective is hard for you to understand, because I’ve seen more than any of you…quite literally. You all became so sure of your righteousness, so sure you new the way…you needed the villain, the bad guy, to come in and break up your smug satisfaction.
I showed the humans as they truly are.
It isn’t my fault if the truth was disturbing.”
